That's great Brent -- you're going to love that from what I hear about Fortys. Kudos to Max! I'm a bit concerned about this party though ... Max was surfing eBay there?

I was at a hazmat spill waiting for the county Environmental Health supervisor to declare the scene safe when I found a 7X CB on ebay.

Good friends.

My phone rang and the caller ID showed a caller from Mexico. Max was at a party and saw a hat on eBay that he knew I’d want that wouldn’t last and he called me. How’s that for looking out for your friends!

Boy oh boy, first time attempting a reblocking from scratch. I spent almost an hour and still didn't get it perfect, not completely awful, but not there yet. What you think?[emoji3061][emoji1]

Letting it set overnight and see how it feels in the morning.

I'm trying to do something a little bit more personal instead of the classic OR blocking, so.....

I agree.
In March of 2018 I had to go to Chicago. I had been watching a series called "Justified". In the final episodes there was a pistol duel where both of the duelists' hats flew to the ground. Someone on the 'net said the bad guy's hat was made by Optimo in Chicago, so I went there and bought my first good hat. (I had a Stetson El Presidente I thought was a good hat, but after Optimo I knew better)

I had no idea it would become an addiction. I had a question about hats a couple of weeks later, and found the Lounge. I only had one question, I thought, and was annoyed I had to register in the site for such a small thing. The first screen name I tried was taken, so I just wrote the beginning of my office's email address, drmaxtejeda, to satisfy the registration requirement. I was just going to ask my question and leave, I thought, so I didn't care if I choose a good screen name.

And again, I had no idea that The Fedora Lounge would become a big part of my daily life, or that I would meet Bowen, Brent, Bill, Daniel, Ken, Bob, Stefan, Steve, Steven, Eric, Alan, Douglas, Jim, Charlie, Héctor, etc.
The only member I've actually met in person is Daniel, yet I feel I have a whole bunch of new friends I wouldn't have met otherwise, and that my life is richer because of it.

That reminds me, I just came back from a reunion of club friends from when I was a teenager. Those were golden years for us all. Many of them I hadn't seen since I left for my postgrad in Chicago, nearly 40 years ago. We look so different now we had to wear name tags to help us know who was who.

Nicely said, Doc. Though my time here is shorter, I feel very much like that.
I thank all of you here, my fellow Loungers!

Having breakfast and decided to browse the Bay. Found a Pedigree Fifth Avenue "The Regent" that looks in excellent condition. Submitted an offer, and voila, they accepted. I'll post pictures when I get it.[emoji106]

I embrace brands that are not the popular brands, but still make a good hat. Pedigree is one of those companies.

Gripe:

Why do some Ebay hat sellers use a tape measure laid across the opening of the hat as a means of determining size? Do they not know to measure the circumference of the sweat band?

To be fair, the interior circumference is a harder measurement to get right. The interior length plus the width divided by two gets you a close estimate of the size. In fact, those are the measurements for that many of us ask for.

Hahahaha!. I had just sent a PM to Jim Frunobulax telling him to hurry up and buy it. He said he moved on it right away, but it was already sold. Rats! And now I find out it was you!

I have one Pedigree. I was surprised at how good the felt is. I think you'll like it, Héctor.

Knowing the hat opening measurements is a lot more precise.
This table was provided by a very helpful lounger. I use it all the time. Gracias, Brent!

Good pick up. As Max said, he reached out, but I was in church. When I checked after, you had scooped it up.

I guess I should have gone to noon services!

As Brent says, I don't trust the circumference measurements of sellers. Hell, I don't trust most of what they tell me unless they seem like they've sold hats before. I have bought hats listed as 21" or such that, when I asked for the oval measurements, turned out to be much different in size.

What riles me is when they lay a soft measurement tape across the opening. It bends, of course, so you know the measurement isn't acurate, and besides, the measurement doesn't start at zero, so you would have to figure it out even if it were rigid. Aaaghhhh!

Circumference measurements are actually pretty hard to get accurate with a soft tape. I get pretty good ones using a piece of copper wire, which can be formed to the inside above the break, marked, then removed, straightened, and measured.
A lot of, if not most, vintage hats also have the size someplace other than the size tag, which might be missing.
While in production the manufacture personnel had to know the size before it got to the trimmer that sewed a tag in. Very often you can find the size scrawled in some kind of shorthand, in chalk, inside the sweat band, on the leather and/or the felt.
Sellers have confirmed the size for me that way when asked.

Two auctions I was watching ended today, during service time. I put my phone on airplane mode and prayed to forget about them.
Fortunately I've never heard hats mentioned in a sermon. Crowns, yes, but fortunately not today.
