Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

I picked up these two in the past two weeks from EBay, first one for 25 dollars, second one for 10 dollars, very happy with purchase. Would like the model of the first one.

Any chance you can provide photos of the sweat, liner, and any tags that might be hiding behind the sweat? If the box is original to the hat then please include photos of that too.

It's difficult to see for me, but does it say Sovereign above Stetson on the sweat. That would be the quality level. The model will pretty much be impossible to determine.

It's likely mid-60s and for some reason, I think it might be a Canadian Stetson.

The second hat is a Stephen Stetson homburg. Very nice shape. Figure it’s a 50’s

Am I looking at the right photos? I don’t see anything that I’d call a Homburg.

Is this that hat you’re calling a homburg:

The image is dark, but it appears to be missing some required elements to be classified as a homburg. It looks like a very common sort of stingy brim fedora with a center dent crease. I like some hats of this style and you can often pick them up at great prices because they aren’t what most people are looking for.

Lots of high resolution photos in good light would help, but in the end most hats like this are not identified with any precision and the date of manufacture is usually just a range. The important part is that you like them.

The brim is not bound and the brim appears to be flanged as a snap brim rather than a permanent curl. Cool hat.

I’ve had a few hats with that checkerboard liner and they were, I believe, 1970s or newer. Dating hats is still a mystery to me most of the time.

Any leather sweat is going to be skived out thinner than your boots are. Ask any leather worker about skiving.

All I know is, if I wear my ostrich boots on a cold day my toes FREEZE! Much more than bullhide boots anyway.
