Please don't alter this hat! It's great as it is -- and vintage Dunlap fedoras (as opposed to Dunlap top hats) are as rare as hens' teeth!

.

No, never! That not what I mean. Believe me.

And as a buyer, I hope I'm dead wrong! :D (I'm still kicking myself over not going all out after that lavender fedora you sold a couple of years ago!:eusa_doh:)

Maclachlan was mainly just a body maker, who produced few hats under their own name. It's surprising that the example you posted shows the name. It is a really nice hat.

Very cool, Bill. Looking forward to seeing more of that one.

I wonder if "Special" Quality ultimately became "Sovereign" Quality in the scheme of things...(the original $20 price point is what I'm focusing on -- the next step up from 3X Beaver).

Cheers,
JtL

I've wondered about those Specials, as most hats that designate a quality use that word, i.e., select quality, nutria quality, etc. Sovereign works similarly. Sometimes, it's a sovereign quality hat, while other times it seems to be a model.

ScottF's ebay hats were quite nice.

A bad click killed this post the first time around. There was a great Rainbow, size 7 that couldn't sell for only $10, but a Game Bird in 7 1/4 that did better.

Thanks Lefty. I picked up some smaller hats as parts of other deals, and this was one of them. That Gamebird was sweet - hated to sell it, but it just looked weird on my head - hopefully one of you won it, as it's a great hat.

I hate auctioning hats in general, but my place is too small for me to be a hat collector. If I can't wear them, they must leave! :rage:

I thought about getting the Dobbs Rainbow for my research collection, but I have bids in on some other things that I'll need the money for if I win, so I had to pass. I can't believe no one else wanted it!

I had that one chalked up as my summer straw...that's what I get for using cheap chalk.
I was also in the hunt for the Portis ended up in second position. There just one podium position with an auction. Tip of my hat to the winner of this beauty.
cheers :eusa_clap
