seller stated tweed... looks more to me in the photos like a cotton mix. But I do like the pattern and color

Will do. I certainly don’t mind if you contact me out of ebay and maybe strike a deal in the future.

The buyer has bought 4-5 hats from me; they have all ended up bound for Japan.

I watched this hat for a couple months. It belonged to Art Fawcett and is part of his collection he’s liquidating as he prepares to move to Florida. My only experience with Smithbilt was an absolutely horrible wool felt western. I didn’t buy this hat earlier due to my past experience. However, Art put me at ease and said this hat is from the 1940s or early 1950s and described the hat as “soft pliable in original condition.” He also said it was “real fur in good condition and the fur is soft.”
They accepted my offer and now this skinny ribbon its way:

I wonder if it’s actually as white as it appears in the photos.

So what do you guys make of this hat? I'm not much of a straw hat person, but for some reason this hat was calling my name. It's a Carlton Club hat, has a 2 3/4" brim, is missing the majority of the sweatband and was put out there as a panama. I'll post other pictures when it actually reaches me.

Any input/insight for me on the type of weave this might be... ?

I like it. It certainly deserves some TLC to get it back into someone’s rotation. I hope it works out for you.

Hmm, care to expand on that for me, I'm not versed in Asian weaves or straw.

Sure I will expand on my answer just as soon as you expand on the number of photos you put up. Why would you want me to guess?

I have one that says it unbreakable genuine tweed woven in the orient. Could be Formosa, could be China, could be somewhere in the Philippines. More photos when you get it will help....or not.

Sorry, I didn't mean it that way. These are the two photos that are the closest up of the pictures given. I'm not sure what kind of pictures you want, as you can see from the

fourth pic there is only remnants of the sweat. I should see it in person in less than a week and be able to offer more in the manner in which would help you the most.

Most here aren’t as...brusque. It’s a great looking hat.

Great answer! It’s always fun to read and learn more from the experts.

your hat is Asian.
if it is real(natural) fiber then most likely from the buri palm.
if it is the machine woven type rice paper fiber was used.
i'm trying to find out more on carlton club, when i do i'll let you know.

Thank you, I appreciate your insight on this. I'll also update when I receive the hat and bring it in to get the sweat replaced by a hatter :) Cheers

My previous Biltmore was also an off-white. It was wool and clearly made for The Stampede and not meant to last longer than the event. It was blocked 20 degrees off center and at first I wasn’t sure if it was made from wool or cement it was so stiff.
