Sure thing Brent, I'm sure that has been your experience and I'm happy for you. I was sharing my experience because it does happen.

I'm not naive, every forum has a click, a members only club, that's a fact of internet forums, and I have been part of those, but I would never stab somebody in the back over a hat, a watch, a guitar, etc.

At the end of the day, all I care or get out of this is the friendships I make, everything else is just academic.

When a member attempts to embarrass another member, while not knowing the facts and it doesn't apologize for it, that's not what I expect from a "gentleman". When a member cuts a side deal behind your back after you ask them for an opinion, that's not my definition of a gentleman.

Again, a hat is not that important to me, but to each its own.

With this I'll finish threadjacking.

I’d be upset if that happened to me. That’s not cool!

I’m also on your side when it comes to “things” and “stuff.” No matter how nice they are they are all inanimate objects and not important in the big picture. People: family and friends, that’s what it’s all about. I’ve also found that money spent on an experience (a trip, etc.) that creates a great memory brings me much more happiness than any material possession. I like hats, but I wouldn’t trade a friendship for any of them. I hope you have better experiences here in the future.

OK, so it sounds like a lag/refresh issue given you were probably both bidding at essentially the same time. Think of it this way. That's the best dollar you've ever spent. ;)

As to cancelling auctions, I guess it depends on your definition of "often." If you're considering the entirety of all auctions that occur then I would speculate that it's a very small microscopic percentage. That being said, it does occur with relative frequency. I can only chuckle when the "error in listing" is given as the reason why the seller cancelled the auction. Sometimes it's genuinely legitimate, others...not so much. Side deals are known to happen.

I read you. Many people would be surprised as to whom it was, but unlike him, I'm a gentleman.:)

It goes the other way too. Not a week goes by without at least a couple of members pointing out hats that they think I might be interested in. Some of us in my size even ask if the other(s) are going to bid and then step aside for them. I personally see this side much more frequently than the cutthroat side. Add to that the number of hats that are gifted or sold way below market and I’m often humbled to be in such generous company.
Yes, this is true. There are a few members here that like to "alert" each other. And for a couple in particular where we wear the same or close to the same size, we will often share how much we will go for the hat....the lesser bidder backing out so as to not drive the price up on the one willing to spend more.....though I must say ......lately....the hats have been going for much more than either of our maximums.:eek::eek::eek::(:(:(:(
Thanks to those that share the wealth!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if I should list this or not as I've yet to pull the trigger but for only $149.95 (plus shipping) this 1950s Royal Stetson Whippet can be mine, all mine.
It has that Cat In A Hat/guitar pick thing going for it...
