I do admit that I bought a 7-3/8 Whippet last year for $90 buy it now and sold it for $400 because it was labeled wrong and badly photographed.

This is a particularly good Dad’s hat rendition of we don’t know squat about hats, especially how to count X’s.
10% beaver per X....i’m keeping an eye out for a 10X Panama....Dad prob has one in BS color.

I think 3X, 5X, and 7X go back farther than that. However, if I see a 4X, 6X, 8X, etc, I can pretty much guarantee it's modern.

I think you solidly applied Ferengi Rules of Acquisition #2 & #9 in that instance.

Alan, in his very gentlemanly way, schooled me that 4X goes way back. I’ve only seen the 4X designation on hats from the ‘60s or later myself.

The Xs do go way back, at least to the early 1900s, I think even prior to that. If my memory serves me correct there has even been a late 1800s 4X bowler missed in an estate auction about 1 year ago.

Someone might have a link to that pic of the old logos or ads from way back to repost.

In this case old Sawinkur can’t even count the Xs...

I just bought my first Schoble. It's unreeded. I had it on my list for ages. I tried looking for info on it on the Lounge, but couldn't find out when Schoble closed. I will ask @alanfgag
