Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

I wish I were a better disciple of this philosophy. But it is hard to develop a feel for the subject without experiencing different quality levels, eras and countries of manufacture. Leave room for a few mistakes. Most hats can be resold to recoup most if not all of what you paid. Any shortfall is the price of tuition.

You offer wisdom here, Alan. Folks new to vintage hats would be well served to take this advice since these words will get them well and truly on the right road to a good collection.

Thanks for the advice Alan. That's exactly where I'm at. I've bought some rough hats just to get a Cavanagh or a Penneys that cleaned up surprisingly well. I've gotten lucky with some great Knox and Dobbs hats. And Stetson as well. Haven't been able to land a vintage Borsalino but I'm trying. The only thing I'm avoiding is hats with seriously bad mothbites. In a way it's better for my wallet that there aren't as many 7 1/2's out there.

It is going to be a week or so before I can get to the shop for good Blocking but it Not sure they can fix the top of the crown.
