I dislike the modern mentality in online business where lie and scheming is part of the game and if someone fell for it then he is the dumb one as if honesty and believing that everyone is honest until be proofing wrong has no part in modern life. look at the daily instagram fake ads people are openly tricked to buy from fake online shop. or the classic photo/ prototype don't match the actual item.

I agree - although I don't think I've looked much at instagram, maybe 4 or 5 times. But we shouldn't be too pessimistic. Most traders and buyers are fine. All new technologies when they arrive bring with them grifters and sharks - think check and credit card fraud, the bane of 1970's and 80's petty crime.

I bought cheap but good canvas belts made in china via ebay 2yrs ago very happy with them only bought in black, beige, and blue, so after a year i bought some more again in different color brown and green.... i still found the same promotional pic and the price is similar so i bought another 2, see how different in quality of the same looking belt bought 1 year apart.

Buckle slightly downsized, eyelets visibly cheaper, canvas 20% thinner, and the belt is even shorter. What a complete cheat lol...

Ok was just about to call eBay CS and I get a email stating the case has been reviewed and the buyer needs to return the jacket at my expense case on hold until the 6th of this month , I have 4 days to supply postage funds or a prepaid label or the buyers $ is refunded in the full amount and he gets to keep the jacket.

Not happy, I ring CS straight away ( with a good attitude) get passed around to several people until I finally talk to someone who has access to my case files. I should add the CS people sounded like call centre drones reading from a script( for all I know Telstra and eBay share the same call centre)

After I go through the details again they agree it sounds like the buyer damaged the jacket while in their possession.

For eBay to assist me further I have to accept the return at my expense mind you then ring/contact them back to confirm the damage (after I receive the jacket back) before they can help me further at the same time I’m not to issue any refund to the buyer, yeah right that all sounds legit, from my experience with returns once the return arrives it’s a automatic refund.

Here’s the kicker I point out as I’m in Australia and the buyers in the UK I can’t issue a prepaid postage label through the eBay system as it doesn’t work for overseas returns , the CS rep says to just send PayPal $$ after I come to agreement via negotiation with the buyer over cost of return postage ( WTF??? I don’t agree to his postage costs within 4 days he keeps the jacket and gets a full refund - keep in mind I’ve reported this guy as a scammer ) and keep copies of the amounts involved as I get refunded somehow and at some point if the case is in my favour at the final review, I then ask what’s to stop the buyer keeping my postage money and the jacket as this PayPal payment is made outside of eBay?

At this point I ask as the buyer didn’t want a full refund/return only a partial refund to fix the jacket if I agreed to this is the case closed and he can’t come back and ask for more money, they say yes.

I said I’ll pay the partial refund if this makes it all go away - If I don’t do this I can see myself being screwed big time, time to cut my losses.

what a horrible system, no wonder there all kind of scammers and dishonest people lurking there. Can't you just showed them a picture with timestamp of the jacket at the time of selling?
i think the cs is just lazy, and just trying to steer you to just take the less stupid option by presenting more stupid options to just make the case go away.

I pointed out why does the jacket need to come back to Australia for me to confirm the damage as the buyers pics show a zipper in bits , my auction listing pics don’t. Buyers messages through eBay at time of receipt state jackets received as described buyer was happy feed back also left to that effect , wasn’t until day 23 the buyer decided to let eBay know the jacket arrived with a broken zipper.

Be warned it would appear eBay ( here in Australia anyway ) use what I’m assuming are call centres with people for CS just reading from scripts if your hoping for some real help as a seller your out of luck

yeah many companies outsource their CS to another company who solely employ mindless human bots whose only requirement is ability to keep flat emotionless formal voice tone no matter what.
i once have internet breakdown, I called CS of my provider, they told me my whole area was affected I should just wait it out gave a formal complain case number and flowery blah blah I waited 3 days unable to send e-mails, and on the forth I called again just to follow up, another CS picked up send out repairman within 10 minutes and turned out my modem was broken.

Name the buyer please? I want to ensure that if he ever bids on one of my jackets I can cancel his bids with a short message.
Another thought - my Paypal is linked to my credit card so what would happen if faced with the same problem I refused to play ball had my paypal account debited and then raised the issue with my card company. Anyone know the answer. Better yet has anyone ever threatened EBay with this option and won?

Once the case/transaction is locked according to eBay I’ll gladly publish this buyers full name and user ID as a warning to anyone else who may encounter him, heck I’ll even publish his business name he spammed me with , this ball sack even sent me photos of a Ferrari he supposedly owns for who knows what reason, he’s a real turd you want to avoid if you do business on eBay

That one time i had a crazy seller harass me via messages and phone calls, telling me he would come down and sort me out at my house, eBay did NOTHING.
It lasted for a couple weeks, i would get daily threatening phone calls and messages, that i forwarded on to eBay, i called around 5 times and every time they told me "action had been taken" but refused to tell me what "action" (it didn't make him stop).
He googled my name, figured out i was a musician and threatened to attack my band.
After i blocked him on eBay and on my phone he then proceeded to add cryptic threats to the listing of the Vanson jackets he had for sale, knowing i browsed Vanson jackets online and would see them... The guy was a real psycho!

Ebay had written proof all this happened and did NOTHING, the guy is still an active seller on eBay, he still gets negative feedbacks on a regular basis, ebay cares more about the money he earns them than about the fact he is an absolute mentalist!

So what, I've been doing it wrong all this time? I mean, there's literally nothing preventing me from buying the most expensive jacket on eBay, I dunno, some Buco or Freewheelers or that $3K vintage Californian or whatever, breaking a zipper pull, starting a case and getting all the money I paid for it back, while keeping the jacket? Am I an idiot for not doing it? I don't get it? Are eBay people laughing at all the morons not taking advantage of their wonderful Buyers Protection system? 'cause I certainly feel like an idiot now, knowing that I actually had to pay for every jacket I bought off eBay so far...

I feel like eBay is more interested in an Amazon style operating model. Private sellers of second hand stuff aren’t their priority.

Yep. Soon it will be nothing but made in Pakistan knock off garbage lambskins ($99.00-$104.99). They have already infiltrated every single one of my saved searches.
