I love it, and it's guaranteed to make everybody else in the family leave the room, so the dog and I can watch it unfettered by a bunch of kids and commotion.

George C. Scott's role was memorable. No wait, I think every actor in that film did a bang up job. :eusa_clap My Favorite...Slim Pickens;

I love the checklist scene! My dad and I slip "Shoot, fellow could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all this stuff" into random conversations. Great movie that should be around forever.

Best scene

My work computer won't display the image, but I assume we're talking about the great Slim Pickins riding the H bomb down from the B 52. That movie should be required viewing for all world leaders, and all world followers as well, for that matter.
Actually, to a great degree it was a spoof of "Fail Safe", which is also a great flick.

If you look closely at that shot, you'll see that Slim Pickens doesn't say "Vegas". The city stated in the original line was "Dallas", but after the events of November 22, they had Pickens dub in "Vegas" at the last minute to avoid the unpleasant associations.

Strangelove is a great flick, but then most of Stanley Kubrick's films are!

Fail safe is a great movie. One of Walter Matthau's few serious roles.

Watching Dr Strangelove tonight!

So many memorable scenes.

Two that come to mind are both telephone conversations in the war room. First Scott trying to soothe his girlfriend, then Sellers trying to do the same with the Soviet Premier.

Originally Peter Sellers was also cast as the B-52 pilot Maj. T.J. "King" Kong but was unable to play the role due to a sprained ankle. There is a photo of Sellers in full costume as Maj. Kong clowning around on the set, which leads me to believe that perhaps he had filmed a few scenes before his accident -- something I'd love to see!

Before Slim Pickens was eventually cast as Maj. Kong, Dan Blocker of Bonanza fame was offered the role but turned it down reportedly because he and/or his agent thought the script was "too pinko."

Well Boys, it looks like we're in for some toe-to-toe Nuclear Combat with them Ruskies!

Also Slim had never been out of the US before he came to England to film the movie

Shortly after Dr. Strangelove, Peter Sellers did an album of Beatles songs -- one of the cuts was a Strangelovian version of She Loves You.

"She luffs you!"

"Ja???"

"Ja! Ja!"

It can be heard here: http://www.petersellers.org/sounds.html

BTW -- Can anybody identify the squadron patch worn by Slim Pickens in the movie? .
