Do you use your wind trolley?

I have never used a wind trolley, but most of my hats have one. Just curious to see if anyone actually uses theirs.

I have a few that have this feature. I've been tempted to but haven't tried it out at this time. Due to the fact that the hats are quite old I'm not sure if the cord would stand up to a stiff breeze as it is intended to.

Unfortunately I still have some hats without a wind-trolley, but I plan to supply them with one, too. I use them quite often.

In several of my jackets and coats I have sewn in a small fabric tag with a button and a buttonhole - just below the hook-strap in the neck. I can let the trolley run over the back of the brim and fasten it at the neck of my jacket/coat. That way I feel, I look less like a floorlamp with an on/off string

The wind round here is a total pain in the keester - especially where wearing a hat is concerned. But I've never used a wind trolley. Not sure I could get used to that cord dangling around. I think it would get on my nerves.

Exactly my concerns. That's why I wear it over the back of the brim instead. You can still run the string down to a button or buttonhole in front of your body, but I prefer a small tag sewn into the neck of the jacket. Worst thing is, I frequently forget about it, when I take off the lid

I've sometimes thought it would be nice if some fedoras came with retractable wind trolleys (I've only known them as strings, what do I know?). That way you could use them when needed and stow them out of the way and out of view when you didn't.

That could work too, if it'd stay tight. Kind of like the acorns and cords around frontier army cavalry Stetsons....

But it do stay tight. You should lay the trolley over the crown and tighten it by drawing the button backwards (if you put the string around the crown in the right direction). Then it stays in place, while you do your handsprings. Only problem is to make the hat stay put too

I've never worked out why they don't run down behind the sweatband, through a discreet slit, rather than across the brim...

I've only used wind cords a couple of times, never had the hat come off to test it's effectiveness. I always kind of feel the cord would rip right out in a good gust. As Murphy's Law would predict; I've only had hats without wind cords blow off my head!
