Stockman-Farmer Spring and Summer 1937 finds the same two hats as above listed under an offering of three DELUXE STETSONS  in 1937! Note the "CLEAR NUTRIA" being one of the "Deluxe".........

Among the other listings almost all are No. 1 Quality with a couple of Standard Quality and Three "Stetson's Stocky-Weight" (is that like "Husky"??;)) which I have never seen before.........(As an aside, Stetson owned and made the "Penn Craft" hat line).

Interesting to note that most of the side creases are more centered and rounder than what we see as the typical cattleman's and western creases today, even on many of the vintage 50-60's hats.

I’m interested in the re-inforced (obsolete spelling) edge of the Deluxe Stetson’s. Selv-Edge? Don’t remember ever seeing an example of this.

It is a felted edge that Stetson would a few years later call a "Mode Edge". Part of the reason for their price and being "Deluxe".
PS: As an aside, the second incarnation of the "Whippet" came with a felted edge too....which they described at its introduction as a "Tailored Edge" and again later the "Mode Edge" on other hats.

I have examples of both Selv Edge and Mode edge Stetson’s. They’re about a decade apart. There’s some information that Stetson first used the term Selv-Edge around 1933. To my mind the Selv-Edge and Mode Edge are two different finishes with the former being an unstitched overwelt and the latter being what we associate with the classic Cavanagh edge.

I’m just trying to figure out where the re-infoced edge fits in finish wise in this 1937 catalog. Hard to tell from b&w catalog images but it looks more like the Selv-Edge to me.

PS: As I posted when I started this thread, I have been trying to keep this tread troll and internet free. The hats and ephemera I post are all from my personal collection. Lets try to keep it to our collections......and lets keep the great stuff (3X) rolling!!!;)

Mark, I was trying to ask when the terms from one edge treatment to the other take place. That’s why I posted the ads. The ones I found on the internet. Posted here on TFL many years ago. Found the same way you have found many of your images. Yet, you insist on the drama and making it personal.

You want it troll and internet free; best you leave it or include a citation with each claim you make.

Greg, I understood your post. I was just reiterating how I set up this thread in the same way I have in my other collector threads. I can see how you thought I was referring to your recent post.....I was not. I should have posted it separately.....my bad.......I just did not want to add additional clutter with a separate post.

Now as far as my images, unless I identify otherwise, the images I post are indeed mine!! Yes, I actually own all the crap/stuff I post.........so not sure what you mean there....even the old pictures (including the tintypes, ambrotypes, photo postcards, news-wire stuff etc).....so yes.....ALL the images I have posted even today ARE items frm my personal collection.

EDIT: Heck, people have been reposting my stuff and images both on this site and on the internet....without credit I may say.....but such is the internet....

I hope we are clear here...I DO NOT make a habit to post internet images.....the only exception is when I obviously post sellers images before I get a hat I bought.......so, again....NO.....I do not post internet images without identifying them as such.....which is quite rare in my case..........

As far as documenting every post I make, if you look I do a better job than most, but am not here to write a doctoral thesis with each and every post, but prefer You Do your own research and leave me to sharing my crap.....er.....STUFF.;)

PS: You actually asked me about the "re-enforced edge", I told you, you did your own research....proved what I told you.....so....good job! THAT is how it works! Applause!!!!!

Just another bullshit post from you. I’ve been the only one to post something that you’ve taken exception to, at least recently, in this thread. Can’t imagine why such a thought would occur to me. I did read the OP.

Greg,
I actually saw some questionable posts earlier in this thread.....I was looking back though and saw that, I have not looked at it for a while until it popped back to the top.
While it would have been nice to identify the source of your images, I understood there context. If you bother to look back at my other collector threads you will see that after several pages I habitually post "reminders".
A LOT of members only ever see recent posts and never see the OP,......especially after several pages.
But, whatever.....have a good night.....
