It's a shame, so young, so talented, and leaving so much behind.

Country music star Mindy McCready was found dead Sunday at her home in Arkansas from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. She was 37. This after years of struggles with alcohol, drugs and mental illness.

McCready leaves behind two boys, one of whom is 10 months old. The infant's father, record producer David Wilson, killed himself last month.

Doesn't get much worse than this. PC.

Actor Richard Briers, known for The Good Life, passed. He was 79.

I was very sad to have read this. I grew up watching The Good Life (Good Neighbors as it was called on American broadcasts) on WNED, PBS in Buffalo. One of our favourite Saturday night Britcoms. Our girls know his voice as Ratty in The Wind in the Willows. Now he and Paul Eddington are both gone.

Demon bloody cigarettes again...

Singer Tony Sheridan has passed away. Tony is famous as a friend and mentor to the savage young Beatles during their woodshedding in Hamburg. Their first professional recording session was with Tony and he performed the vocals on the disc 'My Bonnie'. That is the song that a gent named Raymond Jones came seeking at NEMS record shop in Liverpool that piqued the curiosity of the manager, Brian Epstein. The rest is just Beatlemania, so to speak. Tony was England's 'Elvis' at the time and performed regularly almost to his very last days. History will remember Tony Sheridan very kindly. -dixon cannon

He studied a couple of summers at Chautauqua in the early 50s, and made a triumphant appearance there in 1963, after his great victory in Moscow. I'll never forget it. There were upwards of 8,000 people tyring to crowd into the 6,000 capacity Chautauqua Amphitheatre that night. What a madhouse!
