Seeing Rabbit's cap has made me feel jealous. I have a grey cap in that fabric but think the pebble coloured tweed looks even better.

question: do leather bands tend to contract with age ?

I've not noticed leather bands contracting with age.

If they are dried out, or become wet then dry unrestricted they will shrink some. More conditions than time factor.

Cap Stretching

Most of you seen this nice vintage 1920s Progressive Cap I got off ebay awhile back. Wonderful cap, the bad thing was that it was a tiny size 6 3/4; Let me highlight that again, WAS a 6 3/4. I just successfully stretched it up 5 sizes to a 7 3/8 without breaking the seams or the original leather sweatband. I can finally wear it!

How did you do that? Did you make it wet or something?

It looks too small for you IMO. Five sizes seems to be a bit much without looking strange afterwards.

It looks better in person because I notice that when I take close up pictures of myself my camera always makes my caps look smaller than what it really is.

The proportions are out of wack but not too much so, Marc Chevalier always reckoned you could do at least 2-3 size increments.

Really? That much? IMO it just looks like a smaller dimension cap and they had all kinds of dimensions in those days. This one is 10 inches wide, so for the guys that like smaller size caps I think it looks cool.
