I used this hat stretcher and steam and being very careful doing a little at a time.

Johnny the fun part will be what happens if you leave the band block out of the cap. I can stretch a cap that far the problem is that it will shrink back to original size if the band block is not put right back in to the cap. See what happens if it is left to sit over night. Would love to but the small caps to be able to stretch and wear but I have not had much luck in them remaining the large size.

It looks like a smaller crowned cap, true, but I own a few from the era that are that small and smaller crowned. They existed!

I'm amazed that the leather sweatband stood up to the treatment though! Good job - I may just be sending you/Marc one to stretch for me!

Looking closer at this cap, I think it helps that it has the banded bottom. Might not have worked if the seams on the 8 darts would go all the way down, so it just depends on the style of cap and of course the leather sweatband. This one was still soft and supple, but now you can tell that its stretched; but that's ok with me cause I just had it sitting there with no use but studying. At least nothing busted.

More Leather

The color is in between this vintage cap and the other leather I have been using. Also is a little thinner than the one I have been using and hardly has any stretch to it. I have not purchased any roan leather because it usually has way too much stretch.
