Right now, there isn't a big market for the fairly traditional two-button gab suits from the early '50s. Three-button gabs do a bit better, and "Rockabilly" gabs do better still.

Nope. It was made by a specific manufacturer of American workwear that is highly sought-after by Japanese collectors nowadays. IMO, that's why it sold for such a high price.

It didn't go to Boardwalk Empire then?

Myth busting indeed! A double breasted, notch lapel with only 1 buttonhole circa 1946? It could be possible that either the owner wanted an old fashioned pre-1930 style jacket, or it was for a period movie. Otherwise at first glance the jacket looks 1990's.

Certainly not for a movie. The owner was a very famous scientist/physician. I tried to find a pic of him wearing it, but couldn't find one.

Can't wait for these to arrive. At 34 and 40 pages, they will have a wealth of stuff you just don't get in the typical British catalogues. The same seller has other similar ones, including one in the same series from 1908, which doesn't interest me … should anyone be interested
