This weekend we went shopping and I had a salesman holler at me from across a couple aisles "Hey, you look like you should be in I Love Lucy!" and then try to sell me a vacation that included a pitch for a timeshare. :/ I was wearing faux bangs and a bandana wrapped around a french twist. Annoying sales pitch aside, at least he got the period correct so I'll give him a little credit. ;) I also had a cashier at another shop tell me that she just loved the pin-up look I had going and just had to tell me. She confessed she was checking it out since I walked in and wanted to know how I did my bangs. When I told her that I have no bangs and just fake it, she said "Well, you fooled me! They look so natural!"

I got a ‘thumbs up’ from a man in a car whilst I was crossing the road today, which made me smile. I was in what I call full kit- everything 40’s from a tilt hat, teddy coat, shoes, bag and suit!

i often get the most common comment "where are you going?" i also get compliments from people saying:
"oh your outfit is adorable", or "classy hat" and i think one of my fave comments was "you look like real lady, like back when people had class, and women never left the house with out their hat and gloves" haha i didn't quite know what to say so i bushed and quietly said "thank you very much". i also get allot of comments on my red lipstick, at the shop i frequent to often, the cashier always notices my red lips and says stuff like "wow those are some red lips, you don't see too many girl wearing that color these days" or one time i came in and he came out from the back room laughing and said "I knew it was you, I could see your red lips on the black and white security camera" hahaha i just laughed haha. iv also noticed i get allot of compliments from people my mom age and older (which flatters me) :)

Got a recent funny comment from a drunk. I was walking through a park and this guy belches and shouts 'Hey! It's Cruella Deville!'.

I guess it's the hair and lipstick - I didn't have any puppies in tow.

I have half blonde, half red hair and a real Dalmatian. Alas, no one has ever likened me to Cruella! I thought of being her for halloween -- I have a real prop! :D

Our theatre regulars seem to enjoy my clothes a lot, and every once in a while one of them will say "oh, I've got such and such that would just be perfect for you..." Well, the other night someone came in and said that and then produced a paper bag. "We were cleaning out the attic and we found this -- and we immediately said 'Lizzie!'" Inside the bag was a mint-condition original WW2 Red Cross volunteer uniform -- the blue cotton dress with detatchable buttons, the belt, and the little cloth nurse-type cap, complete with insignia. And miracle of miracles -- and this really is a miracle -- it fit me perfectly.

I don't have a functional digital camera, so this isn't the actual uniform, but it's this style:

Next time one of the kids burns herself on the popcorn machine, I'll be able to bandage her up in style.

Wow! I'd love to have a uniform like that! Wouldn't it be great if nurses could still dress like this, instead of having to wear unflattering scrubs? :)

You know, I have actually considered going in to work in a repro dress (since I sew all my scrubs anyway), but live in horror that that would be the day I would have to crawl up on top of some really big dude to do chest compressions and flash my knickers at the entire code team. The naughty nurse image is not the kind of professional image that I want to project!

The last two days I was asked to co-teach a session for our distance doctorate program. I know a few well, some ok, and some I've never met. Today one of the gentlemen came up to me today and said "Oh, when I saw you yesterday, I thought maybe you were just dressed that way for an event. But this is how you dress everyday? It's just you're style? That's *great*!" He was really impressed. Made me feel good. :)

Absolutely made my day. My good friend also told me that I looked "So sexy. I'm green with envy." She is a darling.

Last week end I wore a vintage inspired look around my home town for the very first time , and I did not get any comment made ever way, a couple of ladies did have a good look whilst I was waiting to pay for a pair of ear rings, they did say anything to each other.
I did in the end wear a pair of black seamed stocking and bright red shade of lipstick which i thought either might attract some attention ... nothing ... so I an very pleased with that.

Paul, it's great that you did that and wonderful that you're happy with the reaction (or rather non-reaction) of the people.

Not a very extraordinary comment, but the first one I got from a stranger:
Recently, I've been wearing vintage far more often than modern. People often look, but no one ever said anything (northern Germans aren't really the outgoing types ;) ).
The other day, I wore a vintage inspired look (high waisted brown linen skirt, white top, white t-strap sandals and a head scarf). A man stopped walking when he saw me and said: "You look fantastic in that outfit!" (with an emphasis on the *fantastic*). I'm not even sure if he noticed the vintage touch, but I was flattered anyway.

I wonder, do the ladies find the responses tend to be more appreciative whilst the gents tend to find it attracts sniggers (except from the older generation who appear to value any effort on our part)?

Yikes! Faux Pas! I did not realise this was in the powderroom!

All I can say to that is when I see a gentleman who's taken care with his appearance by adding classic/vintage touches I'm tempted to let him know I've taken notice. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, depending on whether I feel I can express myself in a sincere way that won't come across as flirty.
Also, at times, depending upon my wine intake. ;)

I can only say that I, personally, get appreciative comments FROM ladies, rather than from men.
