I've got to say, my Stetson Stampede conversion has taken over the role of "old stand-by". For a while, that role belonged to my Agnoulita (also a fine option), but because of the western DNA, the Stampede is the new champ!
Yes, the felt is thicker and the brim is a little stiff, but when it comes to withstanding the elements - it just can't be beat! In fact, it's been soaked to the bone on several occasions and has only become better for the wear. It's not only retained its shape, it's conformed to my head nicely and kept it perfectly dry in the process.
If you are strictly a fedora guy or are just less inclined to reach for a western, I would recommend having one of these conversions in your rotation. When I stepped outside this morning and saw that the rain was on its way, I didn't have to think twice about which hat to grab.
I love my dress weights for beautiful days and nights on the town, but on days like today, I know this little workhorse won't let me down... In the short time I've had it, it's truly become a trusted friend.
