I found I was a little surprised by the scent, it smelled like a powdery baby lotion mixed with a cleaning product I can't quite put my finger on, also a little flowery, lol. Sorry if that was no help, but I remember that the smell was the first thing that hit me about the product. It's very strong.

This is very slightly OT, but I have a weird question. I switched to the Jergens the other day because, hey, it's cheaper and comes in a bigger tub. I was slightly disappointed it doesn't smell like their original scent lotion, but now I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure out what it does smell like. It's a very familiar scent, but I can't place it. Anyone have any idea what else uses the same fragrance as Jergens cold cream?

A Follow-Up on my experience with Jergen's All Purpose Face Cream. At first I was really excited to try this honestly because it is so cheap, and I read some great reviews. Within 3 days of using it my face started breaking out, and it wasn't normal break outs for me, it was all over my face instead of just where I normally break out. I felt like my face wasn't able to breath and almost as if it was trapping the heat in my face. And it also felt like my face was never clean, and it kind of started to gross me out. With Pond's I was able to just use that to cleanse and sleep over night but not with the Jergen's. I guess my face and Jergen's just can't get along :p.

Hi so quick follow up :) I started using the nivea/olive oil cold cream on monday of last week and after a week and a half I have to say I'm really pleased! I've been using the cold cream and witch hazel both morning and night and then my usual exfoliator ( which is a dermalogica one) once a week. My face feels smoother than it's ever been and my make-up seems to be going on much easier and looking much better. Also, my pores are looking a lot clearer ! The only downside has been that I've noticed that my face can seem a little bit dry in the afternoon ( whereas it used to be an oilslick !) and a few days ago my neck seemed to have a weird reaction and got really itchy - but since that hasn't happened any other time I think that was probably due to something else. I'm super happy I tried this now, particularly since I probably picked the worst week to try and start it - one of the worst heat waves we've ever had - which means no sleep, a lot of chlorine and other pool nasties on my face and a lot of "glowing" :p Hope this helps anyone who was thinking of trying the nivea alternative :) Thanks again to Flicka for the idea :)

I tried the Jergens for the same reasons (price, size), but I didn't care for it. I didn't like the fragrance, and it burned my eyes.

Just a quick question - I know that it's been suggested that we antipodean loungers need to get Dove Essentials cleansing creme as this is the equivalent to cold creams but I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this or if anyone knows where you can actually get ponds/boots/jergens or anything else in Australia ( I'm in perth) or even online - most places offer completely ridiculous shipping costs !
Also - I have found the blue nivea in the tin over here - i only seem to be able to find the one made in germany - is this used in the same way as a cold cream and can it be used to cleanse and remove make-up? or is it just used as a moisturiser?

thanks !

I just picked up ponds cold cream at the chemist warehouse at my local shopping centre (Vic) it was in with all the other face products. I have heard some coles and woolworths have them, but not my locals. Was surprised when I stumbled across it today.

I haven't had any adverse effects from the Jergens, but I'm already pretty tired of the scent. Whatever scent it is. I think I might try the Queen Helene when this runs out.

I have no read through the whole thread...twice! I was picking up some vitamins and conditioner at the chemist warehouse near my home and saw ponds cold cream and after reading this thread last week decided to grab some and some witch hazel. I had used coconut oil last year as an oil cleanser with ok results so I knew roughly what to do. I popped it on last night, massaged it through and then washed off with a hot face cloth (for those in Aus - I buy microfibre face cloths from woolworths at $2 for a two pack and I love them for getting make up off), swiped with some witch hazel and couldn't believe how soft my face was. I didn't put any moisturiser on and this morning I woke up to a beautiful, soft face...no oil slick in sight (which is what normally happens if I don't moisturise). Looking forward to seeing how I go. But if it stays like this I can finally trash the other products I have been using which cost a fortune!

I don't know if it's because Perth is well..Perth but I've looked in the coles, woolies, chemist warehouse, wizard chemist, pharmacy 777, IGA etc. and so far have had no luck. So far the nivea is working well but I'll keep an eye out at chemist warehouse cause I'd like to do a comparison at some point - although I'm moving to Jersey, UK in a few months so I should be able to find more stuff there :)

Thanks :)

I received my Ponds cold cream several days ago (and YAY for online pharmacies that deliver Europe-wide!), and I do have to say - it's working wonders. I have a tendency towards incurable black spots on my nose, but this clears them up so nice! Am a very happy girl! :)

Miss 1929 I use something like that( I think). It's called a Japanese nylon polishing cloth. It's about 2 feet long 6 in high so it makes solo back washing a breeze. Exfoliation is FABULOUS. I use it only on my body about once a week with a foaming pumice scrub. It really helps with the turkish style scrub I prefer. In fact some of you ladies may find this gross but I only wash my body once a week. I do shower and scrub with soap the important areas and bits including my face every day.One day a week is a bath epsom salts:)( I think everyone should enjoy a soak at least once a week) The other days I simply scrub (the areas not washed with soap)and rinse with a wet washcloth.I don't need a body lotion or oil beyond scrub day except hands and feet which get washed a lot. When I was a teenager I read this was best for skin.I did the same for all of my children and it's always worked fine for us. No eczema, psorias, breakouts, or dry flaky tight skin. I also believe in less frequent shampooing. I just don't think the human body is designed to be stripped and scrubbed then coated with various chemical waxy, fatty alcohol emulsions daily.

My husband who insists on a daily or even twice daily lather and scrub, is the only one in our family with skin problems.

can I ask where you bought the Japanese cloth from?

I have an Olay rotating cleansing brush that's been sitting in a cabinet since I got my Clarisonic last month. Last night when taking my makeup off I decided to try using the Olay brush with my cold cream. I really had nothing to lose as the brush heads for the Olay are so cheap and I already had some extras at home. I applied the cold cream all over my face, removed it with the wash cloth, then did my second layer, rinsed the Olay brush head in hot water and left it wet, and used it on my face. It was great! It really seemed to work very nicely. Then I removed the cold cream as usual with the hot wash cloth.

Afterward I did rinse the brush head really well in HOT water and lots of soap, and spritzed it with rubbing alcohol to let it dry.

I'm so sad! Our Target no longer has the Boots Cold Cream Rose (or anything else in their "Original Beauty Formula" line) They still had it about a month ago but now it is gone completely! Has anyone noticed if it is gone from all Target stores?

That just ruins my day! I checked online and out of 3 Targets near me, they're all out of stock or no longer sell them. I use the rose toner, the rose cold cream, rose vanishing day cream, and the bergamot night cream. I was just thinking last night that I need to buy some backups, because I only have 1 product of each and they're about 2/3 full. I only have 1 unopened backup rose day cream and that's it! Urgh!

I noticed that they are marking all of the Boots stuff in our local Target with clearance tags too! Now that I see others chiming in about it, I'm tempted to email Target and ask if they are discontinuing and to make a plea to keep stocking it. My husband was dear enough to come home with two cold creams when he saw the markdown tags during his last run there. I would like another tonic but I haven't been able to find it either since they started clearancing it! :(

I checked the Boots USA site, and all of the Original Beauty items are clearance priced and mostly backordered. I'm wondering if the whole line is being discontinued. :(

I'm going to hit a couple of Target stores tonight to scour the clearance racks and see if I can hopefully find a couple of jars of something.

:( :( That really bums me out about their website. My skin finally stopped having fits and I've noticed a huge change in my complexion since using the cold cream and tonic. I've made it a part of my nightly routine, it just wouldn't feel the same pampering myself with something else!
