I'm confused. I thought the classic Nivea in a blue tin was cold cream? Also, I thought cold cream meant a cream is water free (so it can be used to protect your face in cold weather such as when skiing) It's really good for removing make up, but far too greasy for a face cream, IMO.

I'm not sure what exactly cold cream can be used for, but I'm most familiar with it as a makeup remover and skin treatment. My grandmother used it religiously. A water-free skin protectant for cold weather sounds more like a petroleum jelly (Vaseline).

Well, that's the explanation I've heard for why cold cream is called cold cream. As for Nivea, it works splendidly that way (it's so greasy it doesn't freeze like a cream with higher water content). My friend's mother always used Nivea for make up removal (neither my mother nor my grandmother used make up). Also, if you google, you can see that lots of people lists Nivea as a cold cream (albeit possibly a lighter version than Pond's or Boots, neither of which is sold here - in fact the only thing I've ever seen called cold cream here is Avène's).

I know some people use it as such, and it certainly works well like that. I've tried the Mexican made brand and the one from Germany. I prefer the Germany made a little more, but it's a great cream all around. I've never used it for a consistent length of time in order to know how well it performs for skin issues, however. I tend to bounce around from method to method in the way I take my makeup off at night - sometimes I use Pond's, sometimes Nivea, sometimes coconut oil, and even a pre-soaped makeup remover cloth when I'm pinched for time and/or exhausted.

I've only used the Nivea for moisturizing, not for makeup removal or cleansing. To take off my makeup at night I use Albolene and cold cream. Usually Walgreen's store brand, but I also have a tub of Pond's I'm trying to use up. In the mornings I use my Clarisonic with a hydrating lotion cleanser.

So cute! He should make some and sell on Etsy!

That is what I kept telling him! He finally did list them individually and as a set (using my pictures). If anyone is interested an etsy search for "Makeup Removal Washcloth" will bring them right up!

^ Lots of people think mineral oil is bad for your skin as well. There's a lot of misinformation about cosmetic ingredients online.

Mineral oil doesn't effect me at all. It's the silicone that gives me little bumps. At night when I take off my makeup I'll have little bumps all over my face mostly on my forehead and chin. Then, when I wake up in the morning they're all gone! I use MAC foundation currently and Nivea at night as a cream

I'm a new member, and I haven't posted anything yet, but I've been closely following this thread. I recently used up my too-expensive facial cleanser and moisturizers, and decided to go low-cost and vintage, as per the suggestions here. I bought a store brand cold cream, a tub of vitamin E moisturizer, and Queen Helene's Mint Julep Masque and Oatmeal 'n Honey Scrub. I've been using these products since the first week in January, and I can't believe the difference in my skin! And? The total cost was probably around $10, as opposed to my previous products at over $60. This is DEFINITELY the better deal, all around! :)

Awesome! :) isn't it great when you get something that saves you money AND works well. Have a look at the Beauty Bargains thread, there's quite a few money-saving suggestions/swaps in there! And welcome! :)

What I was going to say was, I've recently been using JR Watkins' Daily Cleansing Cream as a cold-cream style makeup remover and I love it. 100% natural, lovely fresh smell/tingle and doesn't give me the yucky bumps and spots that I got using other cold creams. It's actually meant to be used as a wet (non-foaming) cleanser so I imagine it would be lovely for very dry skin! I rub it into my dry face, though, then wipe off with cotton pads and warm water. Then I cleanse, tone and moisturize as usual. I've noticed my skins been better recently and this is the only new product I've bought, so...

Only complaint is that I can't use it on my eyes, but that's fine, I normally buy a seperate remover for my eye makeup anyway.

Recommended for those who want an all-natural cold cream/makeup remover/super moisturizing cream cleanser! $10 but the huge tube will last me forever!

I am also interested in this! My skin usually loves anything without silicone, and I absolutely LOVE the Watkins lemon cream lotion! It smells like lemon cookies:]

To fortworthgal also: I found it in CVS. BUT it seems to be a bit hit and miss, as most of the time they don't have it, and if I go down the road to another nearby CVS, they never have it at all- don't even stock the brand. Here is is on their website, and it looks like you can order online if all else fails: http://www.jrwatkins.com/jrwatkins/...C33ACF-2542-3708-4D6BFDC7F0F83A31&Country=USA

Btw, their Divine Day Lotion is also rather lovely, probably best for oily/combo. I also want too try their Pore Scrub!

^ I *love* it. I got the Mia2 for Christmas. I'd looked at it for a couple of years, but since I have pretty "good" skin - even tone, no acne/breakouts - I really couldn't justify it. However, I do find that my skin is much smoother (which, I thought it was smooth before, but now my makeup applies like a dream) and my products absorb better. It does also provide very mild exfoliation which is nice. I really didn't think I'd see much difference since my skin isn't troubled, but it does seem to be much nicer since using the Clarisonic. The one thing I do have issues with is blackheads on my nose, and it has made a difference there. It doesn't feel like it is doing a whole lot when you're using it, so I found it is very easy to overuse it at first and end up with red skin! I only use mine once a day and I use the sensitive skin brush it came with, and a hydrating lotion cleanser. If you have any questions I'm happy to answer them as best I can.

I had the Olay brush for a while beforehand, but it is a different product, more for exfoliating.

Oh interesting! I was going to ask for one or my birthday but am now getting something else. However, I am still thinking of saving up for one and Apart from some blackheads and enlarged pores I also have no real problems with my skin. Glad to hear it made a difference for you and it's going back on my wishlist again. It does have really good reviews and feedback generally, and considering how much some creams cost it still sounds affordable, though not a real bargain of course.

Thanks! I have a few Watkins products and love them, I'm definitely going to try that cleanser. It looks like exactly what I've been looking for.
