Can someone help me identify a WWII movie?

[The Good]

Eight or nine years ago, I recall seeing what looked like an old war film (maybe filmed 1940s or 1950s?) that might have been set during World War II, or maybe the Korean War. An aspect about the film that I may recall, was that the main character (I think) was either a doctor or a soldier, and there were children involved in either a few scenes, or the plot. All of this seems to have taken place on some Pacific island, which got me thinking of the Second World War and the American-Japanese conflict. I'm not sure who the lead actors were, so I wouldn't know this.

I'm sorry if my description is too vague, but I would like to somehow cross paths with this film again.

Hmm, Father Goose? That could be it. I watched the trailer, and I kept thinking this might be it, but was there a black and white version of it, too? I'm thinking that what I've seen years ago was black and white, and was probably on the Turner Classic Movies channel. Are there any others similar to Father Goose, or my description? If not, this may be the one I'm thinking of.

Thank you for your help, everyone! I may end up watching both films, to see if I can recall the mentioned elements from any of them. But yes, I was just a child when I saw the film I'm inquiring about in this thread, it did leave a memorable impression, though.

John, that was the first one that came to my mind, but it was color.

I remember seeing it at the drive-in when it first came out and the next week the guy the movie was about was on the Art Linkletter show.

I was so excited ... then he came out and it was clear ... This guy NEVER looked like Jeff Hunter

It was one of those growing up experiences ... like when you find out that Lassie was a boy!

Still, it was a GREAT movie!

So was Father Goose.

I'm sorry, I'm afraid I don't remember whether or not it was. I knew it was supposed to be an older movie, let's say pre-1970s. I'm leaning towards it having been broadcast in color, though.

You need to go through your memory and see if there are any details you can add. Describe the interactions or your feeling about the interactions. Did the children have an adult that was leading them to the doctor / service man. Were they orphans, were they from a school. The concept right now is too general, the thing is if it is stuck in your memory there must be more to it for you to want to find it. As a last resort you can see if you can recall more details if placed under hypnosis, there may be more details locked in your memory.
