congrats on your jacket find, nice write up, and inspirational pics. personally I don't live in the climate for one, I see some repro here in my tropical country just for look but without the padded liner it won't look the same won't crease the same, and after looking at the size chart I also don't have the body proportion for it way too long on me.

Thank you, that's a much appreciated comment. You are right, this is way to warm. Have you ever considered a nice safari jacket? I have one, in beige, that I use all the time when the weather is warmer. Even though they are completely different jackets, they still work in a similar way. Color, cut and formality is pretty equal, it's like the hot weather N-1.

Here's what mine looks like, it's from a small italian brand called Danolis.

Nice, I've always been a fan of field jackets and such, love the buttons and zipper arrangement, all my work and casual jackets have this setup since it's just so versatile. Nice find!
Field jackets is awesome as well. I currently have a M-43, M-51 and a M-65 in my closet and I will post that later on. They sure are som durable jackets.

Here’s mine - issued to officer Voluse - Chief Steward and in battle Gunners Mate on the USS Mills. USS Mills (DE-383) was an Edsall-class destroyer escort built for the U.S. Navy during World War II.
the jacket was a bit tatty so I used bias binding to secure the cuffs and

I had to replace the zipper -I used a nos Conmar.

my dad wearing his deck jacket in 1960

The handsome lad with patched elbows would be me. Poor as Job's turkey, no running water, but I had my own merry-go -round and a teeter-totter!
Your post is overwhelming and it for sure made my eyes water. Thank you very much for sharing your store and your pictures. This is quality content at its best.

I love the look of N-1. Only reason I haven't got one yet is that I'm afraid it'll be too warm to wear as I'm naturally very warm person and last couple winters here in Northern Europe have been quite warm too.

Mind-blown! So these exist with an actual collar, not that wrinkled pile under the neck!? Which one is the jacket at the bottom, with cool collar and lapels?

M-43 is the one with wide collar and lapels, to me it's the best looking of all the field jackets with M-51 being also very cool. M-65 had the stand-up collar.

It undoubtedly is the best looking one! Could you recommend anyone who makes a good repro?

The Real McCoys makes a repro, I have tried it but the price is just bit too much for it so I didn't keep it.. sometimes you can find originals in very good condition :)
What I've heard, WWII Impressions make good repro but they are sold out at the moment. Buzz Rickson's used to make one too.

Yeah, they do! The jacket at the bottom is – as mentiond above – a US Army M-1943. The jackets has buttons instead of a zipper, wide lapels and a hidden drawstring in the waist.

The jacket is in really nice condition, still issued but as near a nos piece you can come. The fit is unfortunately a bit to small. My intentions was to sell it, but it's such a nice piece and I have other plans. I inteend to keept for a while, so I can make some video comparions about these three models. It's hard to know and understand the difference between these jackets and a short video could be a solution for size reference and the contrasts between the jackets. They have small details that makes them special and more wearable in different types of situations.

Here's some pictures of my M-1943.

The U.S. Army's M1943 uniform was a combat uniform manufactured in windproof cotton sateen cloth introduced in 1943 to replace a variety of other specialist uniforms and some inadequate garments, like the M1941 Field Jacket. It was used through the remainder of World War II and into the Korean War with modifications before being replaced by the OG-107 uniform beginning in 1952.

This is my favorite field jacket style! A few years back I found a copy at Target and snapped it right up. It was on sale and an awful color, but I dyed it. The buttons make it so great IMO.
