A few months ago, I came on here asking for advice on a 'tougher' fedora. After consulting you wise lot, I went with Ken's Camptown Fieldmaster. I got it recently, (just in time for a November 90+ degree heatwave) and I love the darn thing.

This hat rocks. Thanks to Ken for the hat, and to all of you for the advice. To people thinking about getting this hat- it's a great lid, and Ken is a great guy to deal with.

Great hat. I have a Camptown Metro and its terrific. I'm looking forward to wearing it more when it cools down a little here in SoCal.

Wow! with the hat you're indeed master of the Field :D That's superb wide-brim fedora ... must be at least 2 7/8 or 3 inches, no?

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. It's a 3" brim. I'll post a couple photos of the liner and sweatband when I get a chance!

Congratulations! I've been waiting 7 months for mine and I still don't have a delivery date. I'm just glad to know Ken is shipping some.

This hat was a bit of a wait for me as well. I believe I placed my order at the beginning of April. Don't worry though, it's well worth the wait.

The hat looks good on ya.

To those waiting though, considering that these hats are not custom made bespoke hats like VS, Mike Moore's, JPierce's, but are mass made for this seller it is beyond me why there are so many on here who wait months on end for these hats.

They are made by a mass manufacturer and the seller puts his logo inside and shapes the hat. There's no time in pouncing and sanding and softening. And from what I have seen the manufacturer didn't put that time into it either. That's what takes so long, the careful attention to detail the pouncing down to the absolute nicest hand, the ribbon treatments, the edge binding, that's all mass done in this case.

I just don't get it. I simply wouldn't wait for a hat like this past a week. You could order essentially the same thing maybe much better from Besdor or the Fedora Store or Akubra or David Morgan and have it this week or next. Why wait 5-6 months for a non-custom made hat, where the only custom part of it it is you can say what shape or crease you want and you can have them cut the brim to your specs. A lot of places will do that, jeesh. They seem OK for a hat I would wait a week to get, past that ehh ehh.

Sorry I don't mean to rant and Lexy I am glad you are happy with your hat, that's really all that's important and it looks good on you. But, I just sat here wondering why all these people are waiting and have been waiting like this, it seems crazy to me and I have been hearing it for months. I just wouldn't do it, that's just me.

I ask myself the same thing but had no idea it was a mass market hat...from all the stuffing around waiting I thought they were custom made jobs![huh] [huh]

Ken isn't a full time hatter, and these hats are pretty stiff when they arrive. I asked Ken to send mine open crowned and I did receive it within 2 months. It took me a couple of nights to shape it, so I think for a part-time hatter it could take a while to get the orders done.

The other problem is getting the hats from the place that makes them. The "Henry" over at AB seems to have the same problem. While it's not custom made there's still a wait, and much of that is waiting for the manufacturer to finish the hat, and then there's the hand finishing part at the end.

Even at Akubra we have a 3 month wait for some custom colors, etc.

Ken clearly needs to do this faster if he wants to stay even as a part time hatter, and hopefully he'll do that.
