brace yourself

Having just acquired a fabulous as-new pair of Police and Fireman B&D braces in an op-shop for 2 bucks, I wonder if they will really fit comfortably with a pair of modern trousers designed to take a belt, admittedly I could sew buttons on all my daks, but it would be a lot easier to stick with my clip-ons, seeing as no-one would see the synthetic junction at the back...I remember that older vintage men's trousers rode a bit higher at the back to take the braces, so it may be a dilemma. Also I think one would not wear braces with uncuffed trousers, or slacks as I believe they are known, am I correct in this assumption?

Are the braces green, with tan leather button tabs and 'Police' stamped into the adjusters..?

And to state the obvious-
'Charity shops' are called thusly because they're operated by- you guessed it, Salvation Army, Red Cross, etc. The proceeds going to charity, of course.

Cool- WW2 braces that were supplied with AAF Flight trousers were of often of the 'Police' type but in Olive with a kind of Chicken skin-grained, tan leather for the button tabs. These ones look pretty old to me. The 'Police' stamp in the metal is nice.
