Hello,

Can anyone suggest a stylish borsalino 3 inch brim? I was looking at getting the verdi. Also can anyone suggest where I can get good price?

Thanks much.

If you can get to Bencraft in Williamsburg (near Peter Lugar), it's worth a visit. If not, it's worth a call - they always have stock on hand that is not listed on the website. JJ Hats also has Borsalino, but not as many models (and they cost more).

Actually, he should go to JJ. They have a whole wall of Borsalinos, and a shelf or two of wide brims. You gotta see 'em if you're in the market for wide brims, even if you don't buy there. They certainly stock "downtown" type hats. And if you get the urge to buy one there on the spot--remember that different hat stores carry different models, so it's not necessarily like shopping for a particular kind of coffeemaker that has one price at Target, another at Sears, and another at Wal Mart. Sometimes, if you've got the dough, it's a good idea just to buy.

I suppose I agree in principle - but a direct comparison of one hat model that is common to the two:

Borsalino Film: Bencraft $230, JJ Hats $350
Borsalino Como: same prices

Plus, Bencraft is a lounge advertiser and occasional forum contributor. I believe as the largest retailer of Borsalino in the US, they have many more models available, especially in the wide brim category as they are catering to the religious trade in Brooklyn.

Well what's a difference of $120? Oh, I guess a lot. :) But it is still possible that JJ carries some models Bencraft's doesn't, and would be worth seeing. It's the unique models that many stores have (like Delmonico's Borsalino beaver "Ernesto" with 2 7/8 inch brim--hey forgot about that, he should check it out) that make a store visit useful. I've never been to Bencraft's, because in the few brief trips I've had to New York, getting to that location would be either a big cab ride or a time user somehow. If one lived in the New York area, however, it would be a different story.
