And I agree with everyone else on the light grey or brown hat, always goes with a blue suit a treat.

No, they reserve that for real cordovan shoes, which I've not yet found an excuse to drop the money on (but it certainly would fit the bill). The colour I was looking for is "merlot", and I'd call it just a shade less formal than cordovan, and a few steps more so than chili.
