Not Stephen Harper.

He's the schlub in the middle.

He's also the Prime Minister of Canada.

Canada is a little country due north.... lots of seal killers.... "oot 'n aboot."

To defend Mr. Harper--

He's the best dressed Canadian Prime Minister in years. Please, someone look up his campaign look. This could be the conservative version of Pierre Trudeau, which in my opinion is what this Canuckistan has needed for decades!!

Cheers

I agree with you one hundred percent, although he really missed a chance to promote Canadian made products with that vest. It's not a Tilley!

Cheers!

interesting choice of clothes for a prime minister:rolleyes:

I don't get your drift. They're attending a summit located in a tourist area with a hot, humid climate. Why shouldn't he be as comfortable as the others? Now if both Presidents were wearing business suits, I might understand, but as far as I'm concerned they're simply wearing what would be comfortable for them if they were visiting as private citizens. Actually more so, at least they weren't wearing t-shirts, cutoffs and flip flops like the usual gringo touristas probably wear!

Cheers!

It is shameful pure and simple

The President of the United States should not be photographed looking like a day laborer in front of Home Depot. Absolutely shameful. If he was chopping wood or doing horseback riding fine. But, not with this backdrop. Richard Nixon was photographed wearing wingtips on the beach at San Clemente. Who authorized this photo to be taken?

Ahem:

And how did you like his mock turtleneck phase?

Anyway, it's not the clothes, it's who's in them that counts.

Sadly for Stephen Harper, it is Stephen Harper in the clothes.

Not to belabour the point . . .

... but Jake, your opinion seems to be echoed. From the CP wirepress today:

"Earlier in the day at a MAC cosmetics store in a Halifax mall, Anderson told reporters the prime minister could use a makeover. Hundreds of fans showed up to catch a glimpse of t he bombshell actress.

When asked by a reporter who needs a MAC makeover the most, Anderson quipped: "Stephen Harper."

Of course, the Anderson referred to is that model of taste and propriety - Pamela Anderson!

It strikes me that all three gentlemen look appropriately dressed for their backdrop. A suit might be a bit "overdressed" for the occassion.
Why would anyone wear wingtips on a beach?? lol lol

I don't think there's anything wrong with the way GWB and VF are dressed, given the context and the climate. It's Stephen Harper I object to (in this case it is primarily his sartorial state that I object to, but I don't like anything else about the guy either).

I'm not suggesting that he wear a suit, but the vest is really just freaking hideous. If he was fishing, then cool, wear a fishing vest, but he is not fishing. If he was in a war zone, then fine, wear a flak jacket, but Cancun is not a war zone. The vest is worn only to hide his gigantic gut and man-boobs. It is a pathetically unaesthetic exercise in vanity. *barf*

PS: Shamus, you have created a work of genius! Kudos.

PPS That is my last word. Thank-you, and good night.
