Ugh...its still very hot here in Alabama. Though we have a very nice morning this morning. (70F), its supposed to wind up close to 98F this afternoon.

I love Fall! Its my favorite time of year. My father always told me that when the little yellow butterflies beginning to migrate to wherever they are going, you know that the season is about to change. sure enough, there are little yellow butterflies everywhere here...more and more each day. Now the mornings are cooler and some of the leaves are changing colors. The little Yellow butterflies know!

My favorite time of year because SEC football is around the corner. Halloween, my 2nd favorite holiday, will be here soon too! And i can finally open the windows and turn off those energy-draining air conditioners. :)

I noticed all the little yellow butterflies have gone from the garden, just a few of the white ones left.

The cool nights with the sound of the crickets always reminds me the season is about to change. Autumn is my favorite season, the look, the smell, the feel, my son and I both were born in October and so it's always been the start of the holiday season for me. From Halloween (my b-day) to News Year's Day. That was the holiday season for me until little man came along a week before my 40th. Now the holiday is one week longer.

Don't get me wrong, I love fall. It's beautiful, and the temp is perfect, I don't like it too hot and it's much more bearable for working on my place and on my cars. I just hate that pesky, cold, white, season that follows.

HEY! [bad] No negative thinking! Go with positive thoughts: autumn is divine for it's golden and bronze colors. :)

Several years ago...I was deep sea fishing in the Gulf during the October Rodeo ..about 20 miles or so off the coast. After the commotion settled down from catching a fairly large octopus and flipping it on the boat(at the same time that the guide said..'don't bring it onboard')..I leaned back in the seat to take a break. Then I noticed a yellow speck in the air well above the waves coming toward the boat. Pointing it out to the guide..I asked if that was a butterfly. He acknowledged that it was..and said that they 'winter' in central and south America. I figured for sure that he would land on the boat to take a break..after flying at least 20 miles..but,no..he passed us by(didn't even look down..:D) like he was honed-in and transfixed only on the long journey ahead. Amazing!...Continuously beating a path without even food or water. Makes my shoulders and arms ache to this day just thinking about it...

I'm really looking forward to fall. I'm going on my first ever backpacking trip in the Hoosier National Forest in southern Indiana the third week of October. The fall colors should be in their prime.

I'm sorry, if you don't mind I have to jump on this one too...

Autumn is the single best season there is:
First, it leads you right into the Holiday Season, my favorite time of the year and one that always seems to tame the Scrooge.
Second, the foliage. Long walks, the contrast of colors, and leaf fights!
Thirdly, that great crisp air in the mornings that always reminds you that you're alive.
Fourth, (take note AtomicEraTom) the pipe is at it's best in the Fall.

I too dislike the heat - always easier to find ways to get warm than needing ways to stay cool!

You're in for a treat. The HNF is a beautiful place especially in the fall. If this is your first time backpacking I hope you realize, and are ready, because the HNF is up one ridge and down the other and do it all over again ;) please do share pictures and story when you return.

I stepped outside this morning and could feel fall in the air today. Don't like it one bit. That means winter's on the horizon.
Winter in Wisc is pretty brutal. I was stationed at Great Lakes Naval States and spent a lot of time in Chicago and Milwaukee. The winters took some getting used to. Someone might thump ya on the ear and you'd want to cry. Youd wait til summer to get into a fight coz it hurt so much. ;)

A friend was born on the island of Guam in the south pacific (her dad was in the military) and lived there until age seven when her dad was stationed to Soo Locks in the upper peninsula of Michigan. She hates cold weather to this day and about this time of year she reminds everyone of where she was born. Her husband is from Wisconsin and loves witner. Opposites attract I suppose.
