I have been using the largest enameled canning pot I could find. It is not large enough to give the felt room to stretch out. Hence I am having difficulty getting an even dye job. I am looking to buy a stainless laundry tub 20" x 18" and have the drain welded shut with a stainless plate. It will sit on my two single burner butane stoves.
Dont know if there are any such places up there, but here there are a few used restaurant supply companies. My 8 gal pot is about 18" deep and a round 16" + bottom. Plenty big enough for most brims to lay flat. I found a round stainless grill place that is a bit over 1/4" thick and fits flat down in the bottom. .... keeps a flat brim up out of any debris in the bottom

My pots are about 16" across and about 15" deep and they are not large enough.

Hallo everyone. I hope some of you can bring some light about the name or history of this fedora model I’m about to receive from Agnoulita. The design is based on a hat I founded on the web, with a diamond crease and four pinches, two in the front and two in the back. Do you know what was it called and in which decade it was used. I send you some pictures. Thanks in advance.

Maybe a strange question but I got quiet a lot of hats and I wanted to share some pictures of them and so I wonder where to post pictures of them if I should start a new thread or post them in a specific thread.
The most active thread is probably “What hat are you wearing today”. So post daily hats there. Also if you look through the hat forum, you will find threads to show different kinds of hats. There’s a Homburg thread, for example, and a bowler/derby thread. There are also separate threads for different hat makers, Borsalino, Knox, Resistol, etc etc. There’s a thin ribbon thread. There are, I believe, even some threads for some iconic models, ie, not just a Stetson thread, but an Open Road thread..
Again, just go to the hat forum top page and you’ll see all the thread titles.

Looking forward to seeing what you have to contribute.

There are couple of threads like this one, as well.

Hello, I have 2 Stetson hats and know nothing about them! Can anyone help me identify/date them?

I recently picked up this gray 3x Stetson from ebay for a very good price. No size tag, but seller listed it as 7 1/4, which is my size. So I took a chance and bought it because the price was so good. Turns out it's way too big for me. There is still a size and block label still firmly attached behind the sweatband, which marks this hat as a size 7 1/2. Much closer to my dad's hat size, so I'll probably give it to him if he wants it and it fits him. If not, I'll have to sell it.

Here are my questions:

1. The stitching is gone from the rear seam of the leather sweatband. Is there any way to have this restitched together? I don't think I would have the sweatband replaced as it is in great shape otherwise and is wider than most that I've seen.

2. This hat obviously had a wind cord button at one time, but apparently someone cut it off for some unbelievable reason. The cord is now way too short to put a new button on it. Should I just cut the rest of the cord off?

It won't look perfect but stitch it yourself. The holes are already there, use a poly thread and just do a simple cross stitch. It will at least hold it together and stop it from getting worse.

i have been gone from this forum for a long time, and have few questions but recently had a issue with a stetson from the village hat shop , i saw in the feedback to order smaller , but i thought in 30 yrs of wearing fedoras, the sizing was always correct with biltmores and magills, and stetsons. So no this cant be right, ordered a 7 3/4 my size for 20 yrs, and it fell down to my ears. Had to order a 7. 1/2 pay duty again,, anyone else everhad this issue. it was a stetson stratoliner. straw fedora. 59 lark

I had the same problem with my straw Milan Stratoliner. I ordered 7 ⅜, and it's too big. Most of the felt Stetsons I got in 2020 and 2021 fit well, though.

Yes, in my buying experience over the past 4 years or so, the straw Stetson branded hats for some reason are larger than the size tag states (one has even been too small). The Dobbs branded straws, however, seem to be about true to size. I find this puzzling because to my understanding, modern Stetson and Dobbs branded hats are all made by the same company (Hatco) in the same factory in Garland TX.

My experience as well...Akubras all fit nicely at 59 7-3/8... All the felt stetsons Ive had (new AND older), all fit well as 7-1/4. Straw western stetsons for me are fairly decent at 7-1/4, but the 7-1/4 Hemps and Straw fedoras seem to run a full size larger than marked and slide down to the ears
