I don’t think anyone will mind seeing lots of hats. Be prepared to receive honest valuations and not shoot for the moon pricing. Few will want to see you get taken advantage of, but the regulars know what’s fair and they don’t spend recklessly. In the end, they will be worth what whatever someone is willing to pay and the prices might surprise you (good and bad). When I decide to sell I price my items to move, at a fair price, but I don’t try to squeeze every dollar from them. Just my 2 cents.

Alright, I like the sound of that> I will take some pics, post them here, and see what comes. Many thanks.

Does anyone know where to find a ribbon like they have on the dune stetson gun cub hats? It has a seam down it. I have looked everywhere and can't find!

What color are you looking for? That is a common type of “ribbon” on western hats and I’ve a few from hats I’ve converted into fedoras.

Hi guys,
I am kind of newbie on Western hats and am trying to buy relatively good hat at $70-$110 price range. The problem is that there are quite a few hats, marketed as fur felt, but on the inside it is written "100% wool". Examples:
https://www.sheplers.com/larry-maha...wboy-hat-/096P65.html?dwvar_096P65_color=7256
https://www.amazon.com/Resistol-Geo...7141123011&psd=1&keywords=fur+felt+cowboy+hat

I ordered the first one (Larry Mahan, marketed as fur felt) and was disappointed to find that it is 100% wool hat. However, it looks more like fur felt to me (I do not know much about hats, granted). Does it mean that these hats are made from high quality wool and are close to low quality fur felt hats or they are just overpriced wool hats? Do you suggest me to return the hat and try to buy the cheapest fur felt hat?

From the looks of things, I find no indication that either of these are wool hats. I am fairly new to the game as well, and I'm sure others in the lounge would know better about the value of these hats. I can say however, that based on the looking that I've done, the more notable brands cost anywhere from $150 to $250 for similar quality fur felt. Usually in the 3 to 5X range of quality. I own a Resistol wool cowboy hat (I can't remember but I think it's 3X). I purchased it several years ago for somewhere around $60. That's about the going rate these days for wool, so I'd be willing to bet that what you are looking at is legitimate.

I should also add that although there is a lot of common ground, there is no set standard when it comes to the quality of felt. In other words, two different brands may say that their hat is 5X, but that doesn't necessarily mean the felt is of equal quality. It varies from brand to brand. There are threads in the lounge that specifically pertain to westerns and also Resistols. You may want to take a peek at those.

I’m not sure about the Shelpers hat, but the Resistol hat is fur felt. What made you think it was not?

The Sonora is indeed listed as "4x wool" in the Resistol catalogue. There are also some hats listed simply as 4x. Are they different? Who knows. Hatco doesn't disclose their fur blends. However, that hat is indeed wool in some part

The other fur felt hats seem to start at 6x for Resistol and 5x for Stetson. see the catalogues here: http://www.hat-co.com/public

I apologize for the bad information in my earlier response. I have a Resistol George Strait 4X that is fur felt so I thought I was on solid ground. Mine does state “4X Beaver” on the sweat, and while I’d bet there’s close to zero beaver content I know it’s an all fur felt hat.

Let me also say that the used market might be just what you’re looking for, but then the heavily discounted prices at the outlets are hard to resist.

Siverbelly or a lighter brown. I see it on a lot of hats, just can't find it to buy!

Are there any websites for used hats? I was not able to find any hat outlet in my city, so for me the only way to buy a hat is to buy it online.

It might be as the 4x Buffalo marketed as a fur felt but it is still wool.
It's always better to check in person in a store (if you can) before buying online.

Has anyone ever seen a hat with a sweat marked 3X Beaver, 4X Beaver, etc. that wasn’t a 100% fur felt (any kind of fur)? I’ve seen “Xs” associates with buffalo wool, Shantung, and sea grass, but every time I’ve seen the Xs with “Beaver” I’ve received a fur felt of some kind. Anyone have a different experience?
