I have learned in my hat restoration journey that many sweat bands that look good, feel supple and salvageable at first glance when handled just disintegrate. It is almost like they rot from the inside out....and while the exterior looks and feels good they are incredibly fragile. Likely left untouched one could get some years of use from them but I am thinking eventually they would disintegrate all on their own.I’ve learned to listen to that voice that warns against folding back a sweatband. It’s great to see the tags and get the information, but it’s been the end of more that one sweatband for me. Of course, that meant the damage was already there by not obvious, but still it’s a shame to lose an old sweatband.
