I have spent the past 20 minutes purusing some of the older posts on this thread. Boy, what a bunch of great hats! It represents a body of work that Art Fawcett can be very proud off.

This thread, featuring new VS hat being introduced and showcased is very special. When viewing the fedoras this afternoon I am stuck that those hats are out on the earth being worn right now! Cheers! Clapping for the folks with their bespoken hats. Many of the posters have not posted for a while, but I imaine their hatted heads in style today. For those of us with more than 1 VS hat, the difficulty is which gorgeous, comfortable hat to wear.

I am wearing my VS Strat. in sage this afternoon - proudly!

Wishing best for all those VS hats and owners this afternoon, Eric -

Questions about art lite.

1. Is it a floppy hat?
2. Can you see the airholes from say three feet?
3. Anyone put the airholes in the crown?
4. With liner in is it an regular hat in winter?
5. How cool is it if you don't get the airholes compared to a regular hat
6. Does it come in granite

Don't have vent holes in mine, so can't address those points but:

1) floppy would not be how I would describe it. The felt is thinner than a modern made hat, and can hold a crease, but is very pliable. It really is the closest to a vintage hat that I've handled (and that includes Optimo!)
4) I've been wearing mine with the liner around in the cool weather, so I'd say yes.
6) Available colors from when I ordered: black, dark moss, black cherry, silverbelly, granite, and silvermist , and chocolate.

Eric you wear all of your VS creations so well. You have reason to wear them proudly. I'm always looking forward to see which work of Art is coming out next and how you are going to showcase it!

Jared, how does the lite felt compare to say your open road?

1. Yes.
2. No - I could be wrong, but I think Art often puts the holes underneath the ribbon, so they aren't visible at all, but stil help to vent heat.
3. Not sure
4. Yes, I often wear my black cherry lite with the liner and it keeps me just as warm as any of my other hats.
5. I would imagine the coolness factor goes down somewhat, but the holes are very small (more like needle punctures), and as mentioned above, I believe you can get them placed beneath the ribbon. At any rate, they don't show at all on mine (although for all I know, it's possible Art didn't put any in mine).
6. Art might have them in, or he might have to do a special run, as the lite felts aren't his standard line. Worst case scenario: you'd have to express your interest and he could let you know next time he has granite in stock.

1. Floppy, as if you wave it around it will change shape, - NO - its just light and more pliable in the crown and brim than the regular. Floppy as in the brim sags, definitely NO.

I'm usually a lurker, but after reading so much positive things about Art, as well as browsing all the pics on this forum and on his site, I had decided to take the plunge into a custom hat! I just mailed back the conformer after deciding on the Nighthawk Bluesmen Edition and can't wait to see the next step in the process of getting my own VS hat! While I'm waiting, I'll be continually browsing all the wonderful pics in this massive thread!

Questions about art lite.

1. Is it a floppy hat?
answered before me
2. Can you see the airholes from say three feet?

yes, if it is a suede finish

3. Anyone put the airholes in the crown?

yes but it stops me from using a tip sticker to mark the hat

4. With liner in is it an regular hat in winter?
yes

5. How cool is it if you don't get the airholes compared to a regular hat

can't answer that, it is subjective

6. Does it come in granite
yes, I have granite in stock now in both Century and Legacy

Welcome aboard Gambit, it's good to see you here. I won't be home much longer Gents as I'm leaving for LA early Wed morning and returning late Monday night. With all of the appointments already listed and the first ever Trunk show of my work next Saturday in downtown Los Angeles my last few weeks have been pretty hectic but danged if it hasn't been fun. I don't expect much "play" time this trip but if any of you would like to join the fun at the show please just email me & I will send the specifics.

For one of my upcoming hats from Art, I am trying to decide about a color that will go well with a dark seal brown A2 jacket, as well as being less dressy than my medium gray and black hats, but not completely casual. Still want to be able to feel dressy wearing it with a sport jacket and tie. I am having trouble seeing myself in browns for a hat, as nearly everything (but not all) I wear is black, navy or grey. I will have to choose something later for a dog-walking, its raining hat too.
Suggestions?

Bobby

I don't own this color personally, but I've heard dove described as Art's most versatile color. Goes with nearly everything. I own one in steel (or possibly midnite blue? It's been a while since I bought it), and it goes very well with a dark brown leather jacket.

As for the style, maybe get a medium ribbon, say around 1" wide? That should be a nice middle ground between formal and casual.

You know, I like to think that even a dress hat can be dressed down. My Stetson Saxon is a medium gray (Caribou) and has a 1 3/4" black ribbon and looks dressy, but when worn with say a long sleeve polo and khakis, looks every bit as appropriate as the 3/4" ribbon on my Buckaroo

Agreed. I wear 2" ribbons with casual all the time. -M
