Lloyd, what a great idea to use the brim trimming to make the felted ribbon. I love how the hat looks now!

Brando, classic VS - the style and the colours work perfectly. Congratulations!

Please excuse my brevity, as I do not a lot of time today.

My bags are packed and I will be heading out to the airport shortly to be back on Sunday afternoon. I am wearing my new VS dark moss fedora. The hat has a 2.5" brim and a 1 7/8" ribbon. Here is a quick pic as I am meeting gymnasts and heading out.

Here is an interior pic of the hat for aficionados.

More details to follow. Enjoy the weekend folks. Best wishes, Eric -

I love that Art's hat liners don't have that plastic bit in the crown.

Harry.

Hello,

after looking at a few post on these fine hats, I contacted Mr. Fawcett about ordering one.
A few hours and 500 plus postings later I got inspired by Admiraltofu, Handelbarbart, Daizawaguy, Rlk, and Rabbit, thank u. Can't wait to start the proces and decide wat to get.

Our friend Art has done it again! I told him I wanted a 1940's styled hat with fairly straight taper, high crown and 2 3/4" bound brim and he came up with this stunner:

I've only taken it off over the past two days to go to sleep.

The man is a master. May he grow younger as the years roll by, and retain his passion for hats!

The Fedora Lounge seems to be costing me a lot of money!!!

My wife's sentiments exactly. Since discovering the Lounge roughly a year ago, I have acquired some 22 hats, NONE of which was free. LOL!!

Had I opportunity to do it over again, I would be 25 or 30 with the opportunity to work with Mr. Fawcett and learn the trade from the master. Alas, there are no "do-overs" in this life!!

well, a little different at least :)
Art is justly famed for his ribbon work but he did something for me recently that I've never seen on any of his hats before.

When Art told me he had added forest green to his felt colors I asked him to replicate this Dobs Gamebird from a 1947 add

DobbsGamebirdad1947-2.jpg

however at the time he was not able to do the felt band so we opted for a basic ribbon

when I was at Art's place in September I saw a piece of felt that was trimmed from the brim of another forest hat he had made, and he agreed to replace the ribbon with a felt band, and here finally are the pics. Thanks to whoever ordered the stingy forest hat :) Not quite as wide as the original but I like it.

I like that hat a lot, Lloyd. What is the brim measurement, and also the crown height as bashed here?

Good morning fellow "Art" connoisseurs.

I offer below pics of my new Dark Green Moss VS hat. Enjoy, as I am truly enjoying my fedora. For other readers the fit of a custom hat is marvelous. Just plain marvelous.

When thinking about another Art VS hat I hoped to pick up a darker color that would compliment the attire I find myself in during Minnesota winters. I started with checking my dressing room. After thoroughly getting myself balled-up in consternation about what color felt matched what, I checked with my wife. She listened to my scenario and then said, "Why don't you go with the dark green as it would compliment your eyes." Perfect - simple. So simple that I kick myself for missing such an important ingredient to selecting a color of fedora to wear. Cheers for my wife!

The conversation with Art Fawcett was simple, dark green and please let it have the Fawcett signature ribbon. I described to Art my schedule for the upcoming months providing scenarios that I would wear the hat in. I did not offer specifics. I hoped he would fill in using his artistry and experience. The creation is truly his. Whether he saw pics of me wearing other hats on the forum, or even pics of me wearing my sahara VS I do not know. In his shoes, I suspect that such open-ended order may offer consternation as to end user enjoyment, but I also enjoy seeing what the creative process develops. This open creative order has worked very well with commissioning art and I hoped to apply it to this situation. A local watercolor artist told me, that his hardest commissions are the connoisseurs who out-think the art or process.

Back to hats.....
This green hat has a 1 7/8" ribbon width, 2 1/2" brim, straighter blocked crown and is perfect for this creation. I desired a handsome, manly hat that would still accompany me to sport coat functions and yet allow me to cut wood in the yard with my dogs. I got exactly what I wished for - a fedora that has me comfortably in style.

I dropped a couple of kachina dolls into the pic to add interest. Truthfully, I had to dust some kachina dolls, a framed textile and some pottery on a shelf in my dressing room. This was opportune. We have kachinas accompanying us in most rooms of our abodes. My wife’s Hopi Indian background provides the impetuous and my appreciation and curiosity keeps us collecting.

Enjoy.

Here is the sahara and green together.

That hat is fantastic!
The moss is a great color and the bow is perfect for a functional fedora.
This is the kind of bow work from Art that I love best, simple yet elegent, tasteful and stylish.
Great job Art and wear that one and enjoy Eric.

Eric,
With hats like those I'd find every place that etiquette allows a hot to remain on and make sure I spent as much time as possible in those places.
Who want to take either of those off?

Does the moss green get to go for a swim as an initiation too?
: )

I like that hat a lot, Lloyd. What is the brim measurement, and also the crown height as bashed here?

It's a 2.75" brim and the crown is probably about 4.75" in the front and 3/8 to .5" lower in the back.

5.5" open crown and a 2.75" brim are pretty much my standard measurements for anything I have Art make. The last one I had made with a 5.75" crown and it looked really weird for a while:)

Thanks RBH, Vibe, Gromulus and Suitedcboy. I enjoy this hat immensely.

As for the moss green swimming - no swim initiation planned. I was taught about the 6P's as an engineering undergrad. Prior, Proper, Planning, Promotes Prodigious Performance. :eusa_doh: The sahara was not planned, but it did go for a dip. The only certainty I have is that, without significant help, the hat can not go under the current ice sheet until spring.

Thanks for letting me share. I wish good fortune and many hats for you folks in the near future. Eric -

Eric I'm thinking it's time to change your forum user name to Damn Fine Hat Guy. The weather here is all over the shop but generally too humid for me to wear anything but my old Panama. You guys are making me ache for the cooler weather so I can get my Art creation out again, and we haven't even started a decent summer here yet!

Eric, wear that fine moss hat out in a good snow storm. I am dead serious. Wearing my Art hats in the snow has been the best thing for them.

Interesting you say that. I also have a 5.75" crown and it feels very different to wear. It's funny how much of a difference that little .25" can make. My 5.5" feels just right. My 5.75" feels tall.
