Anyone from Erie, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. a regular Greyhound bus passenger?

I was at a Greyhound bus station in Erie, PA two evenings ago, so October 2nd, 2014, standing outside in the cold, I bummed a smoke from a guy traveling from one assignment in the army to another. We were talking about what it's like.

Hopefully I am not embellishing or misremembering this too badly, as it runs together with many many scenes I have seen before:

This guy gets off the bus. Maybe 10 yards away, I only caught a glimpse, but he was definitely wearing a grey fedora and an overcoat, slacks, dress shoes. The guy is wearing slacks and what looked like dress shoes, but I figure could be a religious weirdo, someone going to a party, businessman coming from a rainy place, etc. Afterall, Don Draper brought back fedoras along with those ridiculous, even disturbing skin-tight suit pants.

Guy uses a PAYPHONE. Now I know he's one of us. Too many coincidences, everything, even modes of transit and communication vintage. He walks to the front of the bus, lights still lit, his girl approaches him. Wearing four inch heels and a knee-high dress, think it was red, maybe teal, she stands up on her tippy toes as they embrace and kiss passionately.

"Man that's like something out of the movies," says the soldier, considering his cigarette.

"Yeah man, I know. Those two are DEFINITELY fans of the Golden Era and 'Mad Men.'"

They left.

Now I wish I had asked the guy if he was on here, and told him to join if he wasn't!

I was wearing jeans and a wrinkled green polo, not because I wanted to, but because all but one of my suits were soiled or wrinkled, and I had my dress clothes needed for the next day, in luggage. There really does need to be a "Fedora Lounge" pin we can wear when we are "undercover." And I vow to dress nicely in transit again from now on. Three piece suit, pocketwatch, hat if weather permits. Once I was congratulated for being "the best dressed person on the train" by an Amtrak conductor. Miss that.

Was the scene a little showy, staged, Hollywood stylized? Yes, but I am sure most of the bystanders including myself and Army, appreciated it. So if you two are on here, make yourselves known! If not, it is too bad fellow afficionados passed one another by without a tip of the hat, a word, an introduction. I blame the damn Amish and Hassidics for my initial doubt, too! :-D

I am not trying to objectify the young lady. Maybe they were three inch heels, and maybe she didn't stand up on her tippy-toes. I was 20-30 yards away, and it was night, and my memory isn't great.

I had to describe both of their outfits as they both really fit the part for a film noir!

Just trying to find out if anyone here from Erie knows who they are.

If they aren't here, what a shame and hope they find us. Unless, of course, they take the '40s a lot further than we do. B)

Greyhound buses give me nightmares.

I see a lot of hipsters dressing vintage these days. Or maybe they really do draw their inspiration from Mad Men.

LOL, will give them the benefit of the doubt that they weren't hipsters, though they were definately late 20s or 30s.

Hey I can relate to that as thats how I dress, live etc.

I also like the idea of a pin or some idenitifer like that .

Whenever I see someone dressed like me female or male I always tell them about the lounge.

There are a lot of "us" out there you just have to network and thats how you do it !
Just like how I met Jason Volf who is head of the Greater Boston Vintage siciety

Yes, Frank, it is cool to meet fellow Lounge Members in person! I'd really like to organize a big, '40s themed event with Lounge members this Winter in NYC!

LOL, how about something simple? I envision for no particular reason, a circula green pin with a fedora on it.

Rather than ascertaining whether or not they were hipsters, I'm more interested in how well Erie is represented here, by the more active members. Until yesterday, I'd probably been gone over a year.

I like the idea of a pin. I would definitely wear it and an eye catching pin would possibly mean more exposure and traffic for the lounge.

Was their final destination Erie or was that a layover for them? Craigslist has a missed connections section you can post ads looking for people if indeed Erie was their final stop.

We had Fedora Lounge Lapel pins...for some unknown reason, they are not being made any longer. I wish someone would make them again. My Husband had requested a few times to merely be given permission to have them made at his own expenses and DONATED to the lounge, but nothing was ever to come of it.

If any pins were made they would have to be "approved" and you would need permission from the owner of the Fedora Lounge site...MK. If for any reason anyone does have pins for sale, I'd have to put in for at least a dozen of them.

It would be great for someone to know the people being inquired about in this thread.

The "ol Greyhound" is not so kind to your "bottom" after being on it for a extended period of time....lol!

I think the "noir gent" in the gold circle in the Fedora Lounge banner at the top of each page would make a nice pin. Clearly identified with The Lounge for those in-the-know, it's round, and the artwork is already done. Of course, such use would have to be authorized, but... [huh]

Here is a thread on the old pin. I enjoy mine.
And yes, a new pin would have to be approved.

Their destination. Thank you, I had never heard of that on Craigslist, interesting. Isn't that for men looking for beautiful women who can't finish giving the, their telephone numbers before the train leaves the station? B)

I guess I could try that, although perhaps that is putting too much effort. I was hoping there was an easy way of just finding everyone on here who lives there, and seeing if they are, indeed members already.
