Greetings,

Mike up in the Great White North here, and I'm a long-time lurker, first-time poster. I thought I would break the ice by giving a little backstory and showcasing my brand-new (and so far, only) lid, discovered and fallen in love with while shopping for a new suit.

For as long as I can remember, I'd always wanted to own a fedora. Probably the biggest reason was my grandfather sporting one of his, and he was/is a huge role model for me. He was as fine an example of the word "gentleman" as they came, and the hat kind of symbolizes that for me. That, and a fedora's got bags and bags of style.

I could go on and on introducing myself, but I fear I'd never get to showing off my new "baby". Here goes:

It's a Robert Hall, 2" brim, not-sure-how-tall crown (For that, do I measure the height of an open crown?) in a kind of blue-ish grey fur felt with navy ribbon, centre dent with front pinches. I'm considering rebashing it because I think the dent is a mite deep right now; it brushes the top of my head and pops out a little near the back. Is this usual with a centre dent? Should I even be concerned?

Anyhow, enough with the questions, and on to the pictures:

On my head (with the lounge on my screen in the background):

I appreciate any input, and for now bid you all good day.

Welcome to the Lounge Mike !

My grandfather was my reason for love of fedoras also.
You are at the right place to learn, just come back often. And always ask questions, there is always someone that can answer it.
Great looking hat by tyhe way and once again glad your here!

Hello Mike,

Welcome to the Lounge! Nice lid! Good to see a man who posts pictures because we all love pictures. Your next hat should come from Art Fawcett. I'm sure you'll soon see why if you spend some time in the Lounge, if you haven't already. Greetings from down south in Michigan!

Welcome to the Lounge, Mike!! The guy I'd look at right now would be
Deanglen- he's doing some great things with hats, and if you read some of his
latest posts, you may end up with a custom Deanglen original Fedora!!
strike now before the waiting list gets too long. again, welcome!:D

Hello Mike:

Don't feel bad about only one Fedora. You have one more than I do. However, my new lid is on it's way and I hope it looks half as good on me as your new cover does on you.

Honestly, Mike, Art's hats are very much worth your time and consideration, Ideaguy is friend of mine, and what he didn't tell you is the hats he's referring to are experiments in mimicking the "real" hatters like Art. Much as I appreciate Ideaguy's kindness, Art's hats are the hallmark of the Lounge, and you should have a discussion with him about what he has to offer.

Hi Eric! Welcome to the Lounge! Looking forward to your new hat in pictures on the Lounge! Hope you ordered one from Art. The Hall of Fame thread will whet your appetite.

I've seen a number of those works of Art posted around the forum and all I can do for now is drool with envy. *sigh* As much as I would be honoured to have a Fawcett original on my head, it may be a while before I can realistically do so.

Especially since I'm noticing the early signs of F. A. D.** and don't know if I could resist the temptation of a new hat for long enough to save up.

Some day, though...

Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of--wait a sec.... Sorry. Got a little carried away.

But seriously, I'm hoping soon. And by the way, before I forget, many thanks for the warm welcome, guys. You sure know how to make a mug feel at home. Looking forward to learning all that I can from you guys.

-Mike
