I understand what you guys are saying but I don't want this to be about me at all

not only that ... it just seems extremely tacky to be like ... "hey check out my show ..." ... then it's me there talking about my collection ... that's cringeworthy to me ... yuck

I'll mention my passion in the introduction and that will be it ... this show will be about the shops , collectors , and hatters that I visit
You would never be cheeeeeeezy.

Hello, did not read the whole thing but I think we could go a little bit further and have some sort of collective work so that every interested person could see their town/country based hatter. We’d just need to codify the whole thing, have a precise structure and an editorial strategy in order to gather everything in one place. Some sort wikipedia organization

no need to further complicate an already complex process

we will get a trailer done and see what happens from there

I am in the process of writing and getting funding for the pilot

also have not heard back from Steve @besdor at Bencraft for permission to shoot yet ...

when these steps clear the process should speed up

I like the idea of a hatter wiki but it sounds to me like a totally separate project.

Just an FYI -- Heading up to LA today so I can drop Erin off at the baby shower my family is hosting. I'm thinking of going to Baron's in Burbank as I've yet to check them out and I thought a little steak out of a possible West Coast location couldn't hurt. Hopefully the head milliner is there so I can get a read on his personality. Of course, I'll be keeping Project Moon Landing top secret since Ant is the brains.

Weird thing about Baron is that their website seems to be slowly shrinking. They updated a bunch of photos, but they also dropped a lot of hats. They've got like two fur felt fedoras online. The Bob Dylan Rolling Thunder Review hat that is on the splash page? Good luck trying to order it. They even pulled their Indiana Jones lid down.

I like this idea and I think the two things that would make it go are charisma and pace.

If you check out some of the second tier shows to Anthony Bourdain it's pretty clear that his job is to be more entertaining than most of the cooks, establishments, and locales he visits. The extent to which the copycat shows get over largely depends on the personality of the host. Anthony seems like a good fit to me because he'll have the background, insight, and appreciation loungers will dig while still being relaxed and accessible to someone with only a passing curiosity.

By pace I'm talking about not just the shorter length but also responsible editing to keep the content popping. Like if we're seeing a Lounger's collection they'd be comfortably rapid - like six total looks in fewer than thirty seconds rather than following somebody around while they open a box every five minutes. I recall photography slideshows where some photographers think a five second delay is appropriate and they're overestimating the patience and focus of their audience.

Production value is important too but as long as the basics of sound and lighting are there the host and the hat have a good chance.

The Lounger segments should feature folks who dress smartly from the neck down too. The hats will gain context through the individuality and personality of the folks underneath, not the other way around.

thanks for the input

the production people I am working with as far as camera , producer, editor are professionals and work on these type of shows for a living

it will very much be filmed and edited in the vein of MTV Cribs , Diners Drive ins and Dives , Pawn Stars and American Pickers ...

establishing a budget and having filming permissions granted are delaying us at the moment .. .but it will be worked out

as I'd stated earlier ... we are aiming for the pilot to start at Bencraft Hatters in Brooklyn for some history on the store and hats ... then head up to Alans house in Buffalo to raid his collection and chat with him ... then over to Gary White's shop to discuss some hat making
