Great hats, thank you for the education! as previously intimated, try to use a plain background, on a cloudy day- that way the color wars will calm down, and we get to see the true color of the hat, rather than local color reflections, etc., and maybe think about wearing a plain shirt...all this is to help in getting the best photos you can, and with a collection like that-why not? GREAT work!!:eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Great photos of a great looking collection Marc.:eusa_clap It's hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to pick just two, it would have to be the Optimo and the Adam. (I'm still looking for my first one from that line.)

Here's my hat's lining logo, and here's yours. I think we have a match!

And here is my hat's paper size label:

Ah, I just found the paper label in mine and it is identical
(but for the larger size) and does, indeed, carry the 1880 date.
Glad to see we've confirmed your hat's maker. Mine has
an incredibly soft sweatband. Wish I could find 'em like that now.
Some old Stetsons I have carry a similarly soft sweat.

Here's a bird's eye view of that overwelt. It's 5/16" wide.

.

The overwelt appears to have something in it, in both
the closeup and the picture of you wearing the hat.
Gives it a certain body I haven't seen before.

I have an old Stetson (hideously motheaten before I got it)
with an interesting overwelt stitch I keep meaning to post.
I am tempted to post a brim style overview thread one of
these days.

Thanks again for posting all these fantastic hats.

I'm squeezing the overwelt, and it seems to have a string in it. The felt itself is pretty thick, so that accounts for some of the overwelt's body. Still, I do think it has a string or cord inside. Whatever it is, it's totally soft and flexible.

Art Fawcett may know more about this. Art?

In Los Angeles today, there are practically no vintage clothing stores (or antique stores/malls, for that matter) that sell pre-1960s men's fedoras. They're just not around, unless you get lucky at an estate sale or garage sale.

.
I think they're not around because all of you guys have got them all. How many hats does a guy with only one head need? Just kidding...I'm just jealous because my head's too big to fit into a vintage hat!;) Seriously Marc, that is one impressive collection. Those 20s hats are a revelation. I've seen drawings and a few photos, but I'm really surprised at how nice they are. :eusa_clap

Well, I expect that Helmut, like most good Germans, is vacationing at a nude beach on the French Riviera. lol

And Marc, you flatter me. I've gone from knowing practically nothing (except that I like hats!) to having the big collection I have in a scant six months. It's been a heck of a lot of fun!

Thanks! Yes, it's that infamous green hat..

You'll never regret not trimming that brim! I know that it's just one man's opinion, but I really do think that the higher crown and wider brim works for you. Based on what I've seen here, there doesn't appear to be a hat you don't look good in! Outstanding group of hats, Marc! :)

The mail stork just arrived with a bouncing vintage '40s tan "Mallory 'Ten' " fedora. Here are the so-so photos:
I wish the mail stork would bring something like that my way! I think that one is my favorite, but overall an impressive collection, Marc. You clearly have an eye for a quality hat, not to mention hats that flatter you.

Thanks for looking that up, Johnnysan! Saved me the trouble. That's a great term, Jake; I'll have to add that to my repetoire.

Great collection!

Uh, this guy is one of those fellows that just looks good in any hat. I can't pull that off myself. My ugly mug demands only certain styles. I am the poorer for it. Fedora

i like these the best! i seem to go for the ones with a shorter crown - ones that aren't so tall on top.
