I ordered a grey "Casual" from noggintops today. Just got word that they are out of stock. :(

I know that DM has them, but was wondering if the Casual is named something else in Australia (like the "Sydney" is).
Can't seem to find the Casual on any of the Australian sites.

Thanks in advance...

Well Nickn5...

Thank you. That is just too cool for school :)
Glad I saw your post before I speny my money on something foolish like food.

Just did my part to support the global economy. Even with shipping, a great price. No telling if it is in stock...got the automated e-mail gig that somone will be in contact to confirm dispatch details yada yada.

No telling how long it will take to swim across the ocean (if they even have one). But what makes it worth the wait is that I had a choice of BLACK.

All the best and thanks again!
Cheers!

Well, I got a note from Hats Direct that my Casual is shipping in the next mail drop. :)
Now, as much as I like black...I really did like my carbon grey Sydney...which, almost looks black. Does that make sense?
Maybe I should've gone carbon :eusa_doh:

Anyway, I've seen on-line ads of both colors. I know there is a diff, but by how much? Hard for me to discern the Akubra shade difference in the ads.

What I would like is for someone that has both a carbon grey and black Akubra to post a pic...a picture where they are both in the same pic together for comparison in the same ambient lighting/flash condition.

Doesn't matter in my choice as I've already ordered...but I am curious.

Thanks in advance :eusa_clap

PS, edited my previous post as I was overstating the obvious on your collective kindness.

you could probably get it switched before they shipped it out. Black is definitely black. The Carbon grey woukd go with a lot more, clothes wise.

The David Morgan Sydney is not carbon grey, it's charcoal. They are different. Morgan's charcoal Sydney is "not-quite-black." I've personally seen the Morgan charcoal grey and it is definitely just shy of black. But the standard Akubra carbon grey is a deep, rich grey, but unmistakably grey. To make things more confusing, the Casual available through David Morgan is carbon grey, not the charcoal of the DM Sydney.
What I would like is for someone that has both a carbon grey and black Akubra to post a pic...a picture where they are both in the same pic together for comparison in the same ambient lighting/flash condition.
If you scroll through this thread, you'll see a few examples Federations in carbon grey, black, moonstone, tawny fawn, you name it.

Thanks JohnnB53 for the link. Big help and nice to view/read.
And you are correct, the Sydney is Charcoal. That's the hat I'm wearing in my avatar. And it's not confusing if I keep my head screwed on straight.

After viewing the thread you referenced, I took citRon's advice and e-mailed HD to swtich to Carbon Grey as long as they were in stock. But, I'd be happy no matter what. I think I will save the black for something more "formal" as the Casual is destined to become a everyday beater for me. I use "beater" affectionately as I respect my lids.

And to answer your question about the sweatband daizawaguy...it's neither leather or tape.
Here's a link to the description: http://www.davidmorgan.com/product_info.php?products_id=1060

Thanks all.
Cheers...

The `Casual` comes without a leather sweatband...I think it is a tape...is that the understanding?

It has an elastic sweatband, identical to the Borsalino Traveler and Christy's Of London Foldaway.

Goose - did you receive your Casual yet? I'm looking at one also for an 'everyday' hat. I like the Carbon Gray color and the hat style looks like one that could go with just about anything. Would appreciate hearing about it if you did receive it.

Nope...not yet ValEag... :( Thank you for asking.

Just went to check the mail. No mail of any sort so far...so I am hoping today is "the day".

Hope it works for me looks wise. Would nice to have a decent lid I can take with me on rides and such were I can't usually carry or pack a hat. I do have a oil cloth packer, but I'd really like something a bit nicer...so here I wait.

Certainly plan on posting accordingly. Stay tuned. Same Bat Channel.

Thanks Goose - I'll be watching . . .
Wait no more my ValEag Hombre...

Came home to see the box on the porch.
Gotta tell ya, I've been wearing lids since before the The Painter was a Corporal. Humbly, and respectfully, I admit that I don't have the hatistory or knowledge a lot of you have here that are older than dirt in knowledge. But, I know what is comortable and feels right for me. We've all been there...some just don't do it...some are dead on. This Casual is dead on for me (your mileage may vary. Don' run with scissors. Objects in mirror are closer than they apprear).

This hat went on my noggin like it was meant to be there.

I'm sorry Sydney...I guess you'll come out the next time I go to a play...which won't be soon..so pack a lunch!!!

Seriously, I popped this pup on and it is like it was meant for me.
Now, it doesn't have the spiffy liner, sweat band, yada yada like an Imperial Akubra...but this hat feels like an old friend...well, a frend with beneifts.

No kidding. I am more than pleasantly surprised. ValEag-Over-Easy, I'm serious, get one. IF you don't like it, and it is my size (60), I'll buy it from you for what I paid, plus the domestic shipping. I'll give you two weeks...than the offer is off...but I doubt you will want do to it.l It's such a "natural". Never would I have imagined such a comfy lid, sight unseen, right outta the box.

And citRon, they did switch it to carbon grey as I asked via e-mail thanks to your timely and Yoda hint.

GaizanGuy (no disrespect...you get better service there than I do as a Hapa)...it is not tape...some nice cloth sewn to the base. And, I say "Gaizan" like I say "Haolie" to peeps I like...after 13 years in Hawai'i I can only explain to those that don't get it).

Now, what I don't get is how do I "crush" it"? It cringes me to think of that, but that is why I got it. I did RTFM and nothing about crushing...any tips?"

Plumage added for effect only. Looking for my "God and Country" pin right now.

So do you like it or not??lol

All kidding aside - thanks for the review and the timely post. The two week offer is mighty tempting - and size 60 is just what I wear. I agree with Flitcraft - your pic gives a much better idea of what it really looks like.

Oh yeah - as far as the crushing goes - there is a thread about a guy in a wheelchair . . . .

Roll it, don't crush it.

Actually, I don't think the Casual is a full-on packable hat like the Traveler or Foldaway. It can be crushed, basically mashed, straight down. This pic illustrates it (lifted from David Morgan's site)

Yeah, if you crush it, do it like in that picture. I have a crushable hat (not Akubra) that I packed in a suitcase by squeezing the sides towards the middle, which folded the brim, and there's still a slight kink in the front of the brim. It's probably not noticeable to anyone but me, but I will keep the brim as flat as possible when packing it in the future.

Thanks for taking the time to write the kind words and tips on "crushing" or rolling. That pic of the crushed Casual makes me cringe

But, alas, at dinner tonite, I had my Casual on the chair next to me. My wife asked if that was the hat I was waiting for from Australia that I can crush for trips and such. As I placed the lid on the table to show it to her, I said "yes" and motioned how it is done (crown pushed flat down). She, very inquisitively and without malice, asked "like this?" and crushed it!!!!

I about lost my taco but kept my composure and said "yes...just like that".

Anyway, that puppy came right back up w/o any sign that it had been squished. Impressive.

That "wheelchair" comment...now THAT was funny ValEag :D .

Maybe I'll try rolling it GTD. Someday. Don't plan on squishing or rolling it for awhile though.

And to confirm Flitcraft, it surprised me when I saw it. Much better than the stock ad pics.

Less than 100 clams and received in a week...what a nice hat for the buck.
Thanks again all...
