I'm with Tommy here on the CD. That look can be duplicated easily, crown 6" or more, brim between 3 1/4"-3 1/2" to my eye.

Miller hats 6" open crown, your choice of color, brim widths, bands. Failing that, any custom hatter could duplicate that hat. Good luck

For fun I ordered one, need it like I need a third armpit but it will be fun and I'll get some use out of it. Can't turn down tall crowns.

Caught the Gary Cooper segment of It's a Big Country: An American Anthology (1952) on TCM this Sunday. Do you think a Campdraft could be shaped to resemble that? Is the crown high enough -- and is the brim wider than that? Cooper's, I think, is a hat he wore for some years, and the side brim curl is probably from a lot of handling, but it makes the brim look smaller than it probably is.

Looks more like a Boss of the Plains specs if you're sticking to Akubras

mine finally arrived yesterday. it took close to four months.
i have to say I'm a little disappointed in the wind trolley. very fine thread, unless its Kevlar or something very strong.

The hat doesn't weigh much and the wind trolley is only there to stop it going down the street, it doesn't have to be that strong.
I must admit I never use the wind trolleys on mine.

Me neither. In fact, the one on my Silverbelly Campdraft started to become unruly so I cut it off; the others are behaving so far.

When you start comparison shopping I think you'll discover $86 is a very reasonable price for a mass-produced fur felt fedora. A good custom hat can easily run three to five times as much, maybe more. And welcome to The Lounge!

I've been shopping around for a while, I meant I'm more than happy to wait on such a great hat for so cheap. I bought my first Akubra in '07 from hats direct and it was about a month to wait back then.

oh, I'm all but certain I'll never use it, anymore than I'd use a lapel button hole. it's just kind of thin and floppy. i like it being anachronistic, especially when i run into an open road wearer.

Gorgeous day here. For the first time this year the temp's down in the low 70's, so I wore the BGCD to work. Only problem is that I store the thing upside down, and now the ribbon end sticks up in the front, I was thinking of just touching the end with something sticky, but I thought I'd wait and ask you guys. Any suggestions?

The ribbon on my Strat does the same thing. I simply dampen the end of the ribbon, place it where I want it and it tends to dry in place. Works until I hang it on the wall again, then I repeat the process.

Just a little moisture on a Q tip works for me.
