Personal taste isn't it? I think it suits Rudie but I would find the large collar and all those seams irritating. But given time it may grow on me.

Let's face it, it's always fun and interesting when new - I use the word advisedly - stuff rocks up. It means more choice and stuff to chat about: different designs, hides whatever, it keeps this place turning. Different strokes for different folks, but at least we've got something to talk about!

Funny how different individual perceptions can be.

Ain't that the truth!!!! On the other hand, things would be pretty boring if we all shared the same perceptions and favored the exact same jacket(s). Personally, I lean towards minimalist designs. Others find such designs dull and uninspired. Many here love the J-106 and Perfecto jackets. Neither speak to me (although I think others look fantastic in them). Others are focused on military reproductions. I like the chore style jackets (e.g., Canuck). Others find them antiquated. The members of StyleForum exalt an entirely different aesthetic. Ain't diversity grand.

A few weeks ago, I posted a new jacket and the old jacket that it replaced on a different forum. Several members replied that they preferred the old jacket more than my new one. Oh well, different strokes for different folks.

Although I do not love Aero's new design, I do believe Aero has done a wonderful job executed the design and recreated a unique look. In other words, I respect and appreciate the design even though I would not purchase it. I also love the new goat hide.

Collar style is period correct to the 40s, I guess the 70s designers lifted it from there:

A lot of designers in the Seventies took huge influence from menswear of the 30s and Forties, hence the return of the wide lapels, peaked lapels on SB jackets, wider trouser legs...

if people see 70s they see 70s.
there's not much you can do about it.
same thing happens with many 30s suits.

Funny thing is, I see a lot of Seventies suits - not the fashion-stuff, but the basic, workaday suits - with wide, peak lapels, wide legs and decently high waists, and see something passable for cheap, day to day wear that when properly accessorised can lean to an earlier look.

One of the great pop culture myths is that the Seventies was wholly without style. There was a lot of nasty stuff around, but it was by no means all bad (I certainly recall at least as much, perhaps more, sartorial and cultural ugliness in the Eighties). Writing off the entire decade as universally bad, style-wise, and then rejecting anything based on anything that inspired it, is intellectually lazy. Bit like the folks who blanket-regard all politicians / lawyers / journalists / estate agents / whatever as "corrupt" and so on. It's for the hard of thinking, and not rational minds. Which is, of course, completely different than folks happening not to like an individual piece like this. It's what's going on more generally, though, when you get that knee-jerk "Seventies BAD!" thing.

I grew up in the 1970's and stylistically, I haven't liked the look of any period I've lived in. But you can always find items to provide relief - Harris Tweed and leather jackets, particular versions of jeans or shirts. Even in the 1990's, a vile time sartorially, you could by-pass the look if you wanted to. Like many, I've never embraced the look of any era I've had to live in.

I have an inside tip: The guy in the 1970's Leisure Suit is none other than our well known FL Member Seb Lucas taken in 1970. :gossip: lol :pound:

You should see what I wore when I was growing up during the late 1950's and early 1960's. :eeek:

As they should. After all, we all should learn from our mistakes. :D

Ah Rudie, my learning curve is far more horizontal than vertical, and it took me way too long to nail down jackets that actually fit. :eusa_doh:
