Thanks for posting that man!!! These slides really look LEGIT!!!!! I have like a dozen or so vintage zippers but I would go for one of these in a heartbeat!!! The look AND the quality makes it a no brainer!!!

YKK zippers are a tenth of the price of finding a true NOS vintage. I assume slides/pulls can just be bought on their own and they use the same YKK tracks. Cool to know about this.

I admit I have a little bit of zipper snob in me..... I wish YKK would pick up the Talon brand and just make YKKs with retro Talon hardware

Nothing wrong with that, I do like a well made one. Still want to have a jacket with a nice riri with it.



Ykk make the Old American line with vintage styled pullers.

Nice to know, is that what Japanese makers use for their jackets?

Ok guy this is what he has coming my way. But I need some help. He is sending five out the seven threads he offer on his site I ask him and he say "this are the mos popular the other almost never get order" I'm like you are already doing it, just include them.

Can any of you reach out to Shawn and ask him to send zippers and buttons. I told him and i'm not sure if he gets it...
I told him to joint the hides with the zippers and buttons, that way is all one piece more or less.

Instead of “distressing” these , I’d like to see him wash them before making a jacket. I think it would be a nice alternative for those of us that want a lived in look without the 80s vibe.
He does have some type of “tumbling” machine as seen on his factory pictures shown here somewhere. I’m really not well versed in distressing, vintaging, washing, waxing, and oiling techniques on the skins, as I’m not sure what process does what.

Generally speaking in Leather Hides, they come in grades and different qualities as we all know. But part of the grading is in the amount of imperfections in the hide. Natural imperfections, scarring from Insect Bites, brands, abrasions etc that occurred over the lifetime of the animal all contribute to a lower grade hide. These hides are the hides that are textured (pebbling), distressed and otherwise processed to hide the imperfections. Naked hides can stand on their own and be tanned/dyed without the extra processing as they are free from these imperfections and they are generally also more costly.

Knowing this, and not knowing anything about Buffalo (not Bison), I'm left to my imagination. I'm thinking that Buffalo hides may just HAVE to be distressed because they are too many imperfections in the hides. If they are wild this would totally be the case. I don't know if they are raised for meat/hides in that area of the world. I have never really heard of a prevalence of Buffalo Meat in Pakistan or India or thereabouts. I mean, in India, the huge Hindu population doesn't even eat cows (or much meat in general). Are these Buffalo hides even sourced locally or are they from elsewhwere???

I am just thinking that it COULD BE the Buffalo is always distressed and not left natural because of an abundance of hide imperfections that are present. It also SEEMS to be a lower price point--non premium leather offering which further leads me to think it is visually less desirable and less costly due to the imperfections and therefore is distressed.

Otherwise---with the graining character it naturally has, why not offer a non distressed option?? Why even go through the extra distressing process if the hide doesn't "need" to have it to cover flaws??? Why not just tan/dye it as is????

Processed leather is used by Schott and many other makers to make jackets at a lower price point so this is certainly no knock on 5 Star. Just what I figure the situation may be.

What do you guys think?? Has anyone inquired about NON distressed Buffalo????

These look great. Look like really clean hides too. I'm sure the price point is higher to reflect that quality.

If you look at some of the pics from Shawn, you can see imperfections in the leather. Maybe its just a price point thing. He doesn't have many premium hides other than the goat. Maybe they don't offer higher end stuff to keep the costs where they are. Maybe importing better quality hides is where the price jump would have to come in???
