I was thinking about the one in the thread title where the covers have been off for quite some time :)

Ahhhh the All Weather!!!!! Yeah...... Ton could stand to tantalize the masses with more pics of that baby!!! I wouldn't mind!!! Maybe he's waiting to break it in some before his next update.

LOL. Actually it hasn’t changed much! I get the feeling this goat will stay the exact shade f seal brown for as long as it’s stitched together. Positively love the hide. One thing I’m changing on my next order is the lining. Needs to be a bit warmer. This jacket won’t go below 32 degrees. Here are some action shots of me looking at all the Halloween crap I’ll have to pick up out the yard before the Bears game Sunday:

This jacket really does bring a smile to my face every time I wear it. I know there may some degree of bias against stuff made in Pakistan, with regard to quality/construction etc. I think Shawn can shatter that perception, especially if he keeps on his current trajectory.

This is freakin hilarious!!!!!!! "Action Shots!!!!" :p:D:p:D

Being in California, I have had an affinity for the Goatskin since I got a Langlitz in Goat and started realizing that you don't have to have an Iron Clad Horsehide Aero that stands up by itself to have a really tough hide. Goat is in the top 3 pound for pound in strength and abrasion resistance even though it seems thinner than Bovine and Horse hides. What is really extra cool is that it tends to really develop graining character that you don't see in other leathers. Some of the graining can be really very pronounced.

When you went with the Goat, I was assuming you'd find it disappointing being in Illinois and being used to all the thick hided jackets you have had. But honestly, your glowing reports have me pretty much 100% sold on Premium Goat for my hide choice when I finally get an order in. The fact that your opinion has not wavered and you continue to be happy with it just further solidifies it in my mind as what I want to go with. I'm especially intrigued that you're saying its pretty thick which has not been my experience with Goat.

I still have a feeling its the easiest Hide for Shawn to source in different quality tiers than Horse or Bovine. I could totally be off base here but I feel like if you're in Turkey or Argentina or the US--bovine may be the most locally available hide because of the cattle ranching. Places where Goat herding and Goat meat are prevalent and traditional, you gotta think they should be able to source A LOTTA different Goat hide qualities. SO why not go with the Premium Goat????? This is an exaggerated point but going to "Goat Country" and asking for Steerhide is like going to a Steakhouse and trying to order Sushi----SURE they MIGHT actually have it and be able to accommodate you---but their SPECIALTY is steak!! Go with the Specialty and likely, you'll get better results.

Thanks for the Action Shots brother!!!!! Hope you have a Mack jersey ready for Sunday!!!!!! Unfortunately, mine is permanently closeted---in Silver and Black :oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Caught a little break in the gloom and really wanted to post some at least half way decent pics of this jacket along with my thoughts on the build. I’ll update with better pics tomorrow but had to put something together for this jacket as it really is a gem imho.

First thing I want to say is that I believe Five Star makes a great jacket. I won’t compare it to Aero or any of the other high end, top dollar makers. I don’t think that is fair and there really is no point. The important point is simply that the jacket materials, construction and fit are all good! The appeal for me with 5 star is my ability to influence the design, completely tailor the fit, and have it turned around for a relatively small amount of money in a very short amount of time. I have hundreds of images of vintage jackets that I would like to have built. This process with Shawn brings a huge smile to my face.

I provided the following size information to Shawn to guide the build:
Neck hole diameter: 18”
Shoulders: 19”
Chest p2p: 22.5”
Waist:20.5”
Hem:21”
Sleeve:26.5” (Outseam)
Sleeve: 19” (inseam/pit to cuff)-high armhole
Bicep:8.5”
Elbow:7”
Cuff:6”
Armscye: 11”
1” front drop
26” back length
4.5” collar point (wide collar)
The jacket is based on this extinct vintage Halfbelt:

my jacket is seal brown premium goatskin, with poly satin seal brown liner and thread. I took the liberty of adding ornamental horn buttons to the cuff, which are standard with olive green storm cuffs.

And some fit pics:

I am thoroughly delighted with the end result and look forward to additional reproduction projects with 5 Star going forward! I will upload some better shots of the jacket in the coming days. Have a great weekend loungers!
Very cool, good design pick!

Yeah, I’m on a count down. Don’t know exactly when, but if you keep posting pictures of this jacket, one day I will do a screenshot and send it to Shawn and ask him to make me one exactly like it.

The jacket looks aces (like almost all of the leathers you cycle thru) but for me the fact you haven’t tired of this one given your extensive experience, and track record, is a testament to Shawn’s work.

Figure I post this here as well. Some of you know that Shawn at 5* is putting togged a sample kit.

OK guys I order the sample kit. It sure is hard to put a point across over there...
If you have an idea and or request ask Shawn to include it in the sample kit.
so far we got this coming.
All leathers including ship skins
threads color and stitching styles.
Mouton's
Knits
buttons
Here is a funny one I asked him make sure you label everything. He say he is not sending us any labels...o_O
so please let him or I know if anything comes up to shine.
Thanks

Since we're making sort of a wish list here......... and I know this is not the most important thing but perhaps we could also request some Liner Samples since guys seem to be underwhelmed with what is currently offered.

Great idea for this kit by the way.:)

Would he be okay with sending hardware such as main zipper and smaller zips for pockets and sleeves?

I should say too that I think Shawns hardware selection is based primarily on what is immediately available. I’m sure you can request anything you want but you may have to wait for it, or send it yourself...

They are, def not originals. No worse than any old YKK. I actually requested YKK for my next build, primarily b/c I wanted the antique brass. I’m not a zipper snob. It just has to fit and work.

Got it, I'm in the same thinking so long as it works and don't break too easily. I actually like trying different types of hardware, for variety and to experience the difference.

I admit I have a little bit of zipper snob in me..... I wish YKK would pick up the Talon brand and just make YKKs with retro Talon hardware

Ykk make the Old American line with vintage styled pullers.

That's what I thought---that YKK had finally got ahold of things but are you saying they make Talon remakes as part of the Old American Line??? Or are they YKK tagged but look like vintage zippers???? The best would be if they are able to actually use the Talon name on YKK quality modern zippers. Is that the case????

I have seen really cheesy cheap Talon knock offs---as well as just poor quality from the previous owners of Talon as it was circling the drain. Its gone thru some different people's hands I think. There is a stretch in time where you don't want a Talon made during that time. Made in Mexico or China I think but they are of noticeably lower quality.

If Shawn is using YKK Talon-like remakes---thats killer!!! Perhaps we need to get this clarified by him on whether these are YKK Old American zippers or some other copies he's using Hopefully they are YKK.
