1935 Murder Mystery Evening

Last Friday night my wife and I hosted a 1935 murder mystery set in the English countryside. I was surprised how well most of our guests did (as far as "costumes") considering they are not "vintage" folks:

My wife picked up her dress for around $15 NZD (around $12 US) and I wore my old stand-by low-gorge DB with waistcoat, etc. I spent a week growing a pencil moustache which was fun to sport for a time. Here is a nice candid shot of my wife at my side while I interrogate the vicar who is carefully searching for his monocle:

All in all, the evening was a success and the game was a lot of fun (this is our second one to date and we plan on doing more). For those interested, we got the games from www.host-party.com.

So, anyone else do any "Host a Murder" type games, vintage or otherwise?

Thanks for posting the pics. That must have been a lot of fun! I'd love to participate in a real in-depth murder mystery game at some point. I guess it only makes sense considering my favorite board game is Clue.

The company I was employed by hosted Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre all over the US for years and it was a huge success. I've never seen one at a residence but it appears to be great fun.

I hosted a murder mystery once. But it was Star Trek themed. Heh.

You look like you had lots of fun. You've inspired me to try one again!

This looks great! Whenever we play Cluedo (or clue!) we have a rule that you have to do it in character... this has inspired me to extend that rule to costume! I'd LOVE to go to a murder mystery, it must be so much fun! I love the vicars grey hair, too.

I've been to a few here and there... actually organised a couple for large groups (one of about 30, one about 75) on social occasions after seeing it done by some other folks. Those nights worked on the basis of the old TV show based on Cluedo - three short scripted scenes, each comprising a dialogue between two of the six suspects, with furtner written clues being distributed in each round and each team being allowed to ask two questions of the suspects in each round. Mine were contemporary set (1990s, as was - my university years), though I'd love now to do some period ones. I'd love to set it up as a sideline business..... maybe one day!
