I'm VERY familiar with this song (the original) sat in with a Rockabilly Quintet one night and hammered it. Big Joe's voice is very similar to Wynonie Harris' who also sang risque lyrics over what's essentially proto-Rock and Roll. I believe the true phrasing is:You are right, Joe's lyrics might have fallen on the deaf ears of the record buying public, but there are some seriously vulgar metaphors in that song:
I'm like a one-eyed cat peepin' in a seafood store
I'm like a one-eyed cat peepin' in a seafood store
Well, I can look at you till you ain't no child no more
Ah, shake, rattle and roll, shake, rattle and roll
Shake, rattle and roll, shake, rattle and roll
Well, you won't do right to save your doggone soul
I get over the hill and way down underneath
I get over the hill and way down underneath
You make me roll my eyes, even make me grit my teeth.
Indeed, such a talent, amazing.
"You wear them dresses the sun come shinin' through...
"You wear dem dresses that the sun come shinin' through...
"I can't believe my eyes that all of dis belongs to you...
Big Joe was a master, not on the level of Chuck lyrically.. but he was no slouch... couldn't play him today though... Me too would burn the station down!
"Come in this house and stop all that yackety yak...
"Come in here woman! And stop all that yakety yak....
"Don't make me nervous cause I'm holdin' a baseball bat!
