i think i saw a shot of the innards of the hat and it was an Adams, I wouldn't mind watching the whole series over again just to find out.
i got a Malory fur porkie and had Optima fit it for me. works better for me than wool up here in Michigan.
i feel i my be stating the obvious but still ill say it , ebay has plenty porkies at reasonable prices , it just takes time to find one your size. I got impatient myself and got a nice Mallory that was to small and had Optimo resize it for me. Looking back i prolly could have gotten a better...
Porkies RULE so go get one if you need more encouragement take a gander at the porkpie thread , in the long run if you are like most of us you will wind up with at least a few different hats any how. i cant wait to see you in one.
more welcomes BKFIST , your gonna love this place i know i do,
You will indeed get more and more comfortable in your chosen lids.
Here is the other end of the stick i just don't feel right with out mine , if i leave in a hurry with out my hat i will stop in the driveway and go back in the house...
i know some are against even a cotton, rayon mix if the rayon is the newer stuff (synthetic, not made with wood fiber) because it dose not conform well. That said there's nothing to keep you from forming your own opinion by trying to make some ribbons for a hat or 2 if nothing else it would give...
I need a fez:
- i love hats with flat tops.
-its the ultimate in stingy brims.
-its the only hat i would feel right wearing inside my house.
-the perfect excuse for getting a smoking jacket.
and anyway who needs reasons for needing a fez for cryin' out loud it's a FEZ nuff said.
hat size
i get 7 3/8" going from the measurements and using www.csgnetwork.com/circumellipse.html and www.genaconti.com/HatSizeConversion.htm it is a very nice hat i hope a lounger got it so we can drool over it properly.
Interesting, here at the U of M now that its subzero temps there are alot of bomber hats showing up more coeds seem to be sporting them than the men i wish i had some good snaps of them. they are wearing them with down coats, black stretch pants, and mukluks.
Hutch i am hardly qualified to pass out advice but if i may say so it looks like you have a the same sort of problem i had to start with, ie. the crown looks to be to low especially the back. what dose it measure ? the thing is when i got my hat creased so the the "inner teardrop" dose not rise...
I have spent hours brushing my longhair Knox to shine and it finely is shining nicely now.
I am betting if you just give you hat a good shake or rub it the wrong way with your hands the shine will almost completely go away with no harm to the hat.
its hard to capture the shine on camera this...
i dont wear jeans much but i do wear my hats with my Dickies work pants all the time and when its colder this is me all winter
perhaps not your style but it is mine , just make what ever you wear your style and it will work for you. welcome to the lounge.
I dont leave the house with out a hat, but the only time i wear them in the house is when im working on it or stretching it. for some reason the only hats i could picture myself wearing inside my own home would be a smoking hat a night cap or perhaps a fez.
thanks Lefty;
i keep on learning here. from what i have gathered on the stetson "x" thread there are also many different grades of beaver fur (5 if i remember right) meaning of coarse that even a hat clearly marked all beaver fur felt doesn't necessarily make it a grand hat, so perhaps the best...
how would i be able to tell if a vintage hat has any or all beaver fur?
this 1951 Knox Fifteen longhair for instance.
or any hat that dose not state on it that its beaver?
