If you like a bound edge brim and prefer a wider ribbon than another Akubra to consider is the CEO. Both HD and EA offer this hat in Black, Fern Green, and Cruiser Grey.
It has a 30 mm (1.2" ribbon), 5.5" crown height, and a 2.75" bound brim.
The two major Australian sources for Akubras (EA and HD) are both great to deal with. I have ordered several hats from each and have never been disappointed.
Everything Australian has better pricing on Akubras but the Silverbelly, Taupe Fawn, and Mid-Brown colors necessitate a three month...
Interesting and tough question! I also tend to favor the durable Akubras. As a matter of fact, I am up to 13 of them in various styles and colors. I often ask myself which one I would pick if I could only have one felt hat.
The crown to brim ratio of the Squatter just doesn't resonate for me...
Great color (as they all are). I have the CD in Silverbelly, Bluegrass Green, and Taupe Fawn and I wear the Taupe Fawn more often than any other hat I own. For some reason I just feel comfortable in it and it seems to go with everything (as does the Silverbelly).
About time to put my Taupe...
Also in Ohio. I have ordered several hats from HD and it has taken between 10 - 20 days (except for the special order Heritage Campdraft)
A great choice BTW, what color did you order?
I manage several people in the technical department of my company. One of my chemists, a middle aged man of fifty, ALWAYS wears a baseball cap. I don't think I have ever seen him without a cap. (I heard that he is bald and is embarrased to be seen without a cap.) I am not sure if he even removes...
Hats I own have brim widths from 2 3/8" - 3 1/8". I wear them all depending on use, weather, attire, etc.
My favorite hats have brims widths in the 2 1/2" - 2 3/4" range.
I wish I had the time, money, and energy required for that hobby! If I did, however, perhaps I could blame it on a middle-age crisis.
Oops, that one was just used up for the recent Miata sports car acquisition. :)
Collections
Over the years some of my hobbies have resulted in several small "collections": firearms. knives, flashlights, luggage, and now hats.
The other night I was talking to my wife (who also doesn't understand the need for more than a few hats) and I appealed to her intellect and...
Both are open crown with dimensional brims. The Adventurer has a 5 1/2" open crown height and 3 1/8" x 2 3/4" brim while the FED IV has a 5 5/8" crown height and a smaller 2 3/4" x 2 1/2" dimensional brim.
In my opinion the FED IV has better proportions. I have the dark brown (also known as...
They have offered (black) fedoras for a couple of years now. They came out with the TF1 Felt Fedora a couple of years back. Rumor has it this was outsourced (manufactured in the US) for Tilley. It never sold well and was pulled shortly after. You can still find it for sale on-line.
Tilley...
My wife and I own several Tilley Hats and a few Outdoor Research Sombreros. These are our outdoor activity hats and we wear them all, depending on the occasion and conditions. While I do not own the T3 cotton Tilley, I do have the LTM3 Airflow Nylamtium model.
I am not a fisheman, but I...
Very nice (and gorgeous) collection Alan.
Whan I showed these pics to my wife she got a stern look on her face and said "don't even think about it". I guess after all the years of collecting firearms, knives, and flashlights she may have reached her limit - which now becomes my limit...
When I purchased my FED IV (standard), Hats Direct advised me to go up one size from my usual Akubra size. I wear a 60 (7 1/2) in an Akubra and usually have to insert a felt strip for a few months until the hat conforms to my noggin. I did purchase a size 61 in the FED IV but asked Hats Direct...
I concur, but some of the confusion may be the individual sellers using their own color nomenclature. Of course Akubra does their share; e.g. "Campdraft" vs "Camp Draft".
Anyhow, still great hats and a value in a today's hat market.
I would be surprised if "Acorn" and "Acorn Fawn" are not the same color. I have never seen any reference on the Akubra website regarding two different colors with the Acorn name. Same with "Tawny"/"Tawny Fawn".
The Stylemaster is one of the hats that Akubra keeps inventory of "stock" colors...
