I have thirteen felt Akubras. When new, they have varied as much as almost 1/2 size from one another. I am on the "small" side of a 60 (7 1/2) and buy size 60 Akubras. Most start out a bit big, forcing me to use one (and in a couple cases, two) felt shims in the sweatbands. Within a month or...
It may be warm there but you look COOL! Good match-up between hat and shirt
The weather here in NE Ohio has started to get fall-like so I broke out some of my felts this past week.
Will have to start wearing my shorty wetsuit when kayaking!
Of my thirteen Akubra felt hats, three are Heritage Quality. Other than the better sweatband, I "personally" do not feel they are worth the extra $ at today's prices. That being said, the Lawson is a sharp hat and is only offered in the Heritage quality - so enjoy!
I concur. I love this hat and olive/brown color (only available on the Bushman). Now that the weather is getting a bit cooler here I have broken out my felts with the Bushman being my favorite hiking/casual everyday hat.
Of all my wider ribbon fedoras this is the one I feel most comfortable wearing with casual clothes as well as when dressed up a bit more. The combination of un-bound wider dimensional brim and dark brown color make it very versatile. And while very "stereotypical", it does go well with a leather...
I have been checking out Irish flat caps (not so crazy about the Gatsby/Newsboy style) and Hanna hats seem to be of high quality with lots of color choices. Based on yur feedback they should work on my 7 1/2 noggin. It seems I can get one directly from Ireland for the same price as in the...
Great choice! The FED IV does run smaller than other Akubras so it is good to go up in size. Both the dark and tawny brown are great choices, can't say the carbon gray does much for me with this style.
BTW, the dark brown color IS the closest color to the movie hat. It is a very versatile...
Beautiful Jag!
My style? Not sure if I have one although my wife would say "rough around the edges". I still have a ful head of (gray) hair so the cap would just keep my hair in place, provide some shade, and a bit of warmth in cooler weather.
Thanks for the links!
Thanks for the feedback fmw, Saint-Just, and zetwal. I discovered "The Cap Faction" thread so that will be tonight's reading.
Any other suggestions are most welcome.
I just fulfilled a life-long dream (well, more like 22 years). For years I have been lusting after a Mazda MX5 Miata Convertible. I always had a dream model in mind (year/style, color, options, etc) and a 2008 power hardtop model became available that fit the bill perfectly so we jumped on it...
I think after you have some time to play with the bash and wear it awhile you may find it becomes one of your "staples". A very versatile hat; it looks just as good with a sportcoat and tie as it does with a pair of jeans. The silverbelly color is very versatile as well.
Enjoy!
If you like the Stylemaster (as I do) then look into the Moonstone color. I get more compliments on this hat than any other. It is also my wife's favorite. It is only available from Australia but definitely worth it.
As far as your height/build; try a few different styles, give them some time...
James makes all the Akubras look good but I still think he looks best in his Campdrafts. :)
BTW, I understand the FED IV and Adventurer are very similar. The Adventurer also has a dimensional brim but wider at 3 1/8" x 2 3/4" while the FED is 2 3/4" X 2 1/2"
FED Re-Bash
I concur that of the two the FED looks better on you. Never thought I would think that a FED IV was too low in crown height but perhaps you can re-bash it to raise it some? The wider brim is a better look for you.
I own many models of Akubras and like them all for their distinctive styleslooks: Banjo Patterson, Fed IV, Campdraft, Cattlemen, Bushman, Stylemaster, Rink, and Capricorn.
I ordered most form Everything Australian or Hats Direct, waited a few months for a couple but received most within two...
Updates/New Arrivals?
Has anyone else recently received a hat from Falcon Park? I know fmw had one on order and I am curious to see more of Parker's work.
