maybe it's just me, but i find fascinating the arcane rules and regulations that the organizations for whom the flight jacket is made and used by it's personnel would have such strictured and structured rules on how, when and where to wear these beloved pieces of u.s. avia...
the Army/Navy came up with some great jackets, the a-2 and g-1...however, iN the Army or Navy, you can only wear these when the Army or Navy permits you to...per the Army Service Uniform Wear Policy...DO YOU HEAR ME SON!?!

being the rah rah guy of buying U.S., and liking uswings cuts and general craftsmanship, i was rather saddened by how my transaction to buy a g-1 milspec jacket there ended...
coming off of having purchased a uswings a-2 milspec, very beautiful in cut and craftsmanship, except for the end seam...

weLL, actually i do not have the a-2 no more...it was cut virtually to the same pattern as the uswings milspec a-2, but about one size larger per size (and uswings runs pretty big, even milspec...though the milspec does have a more trim cut)...

uHHH, sorry to disabuse everyone of the notion that U.S. made is either inferior or too expensive, but i've mentioned on here before that excelled makes the current G-1 supplied to the navy for purchase by their personnel, and they make an a-2 to usgovt...

in the end i've decided not to alter my size 50 factory vanson mercury...
at first i just thought it was a bit too boxy and even altering wouldn't change my point of view...

this forum seems for it...had a warning on vintageleatherjacket.org that once someone gets into the jacket, something will end up not being right...always interesting the different takes on things...
as for how much it costs...i would just have the side seam...

i know i had an inexpensive anj-3 (g-2) where i added snaps to the collar, liking that a-2 look...but somehow after doing that i just didn't want to wear it anymore...so i don't know...
