recently had some sizing problems with uswings signature milspec A-2 when i ordered it the same size as my uswings signature milspec G-1...the A-2 was a size too big, so finally i became smart enough to call uswings and get their inch dimensions on both coats...it seems since the G-1 is a warmer...
USwings flies so-so regarding quality
i've gotten a number of uswings jackets, and it's a mixed bag...the best way i can explain it is to post below the letter i wrote directly to sgt. hack, the owner of uswings...wrote about a week ago, haven't heard anything back:
"i've read some really...
a Separate question about this fine jacket...
great jacket and glad it's going to be restored...however, i noticed that the left collar (the piece that snaps down...guess it's a collar point or something) is bigger than the right side. i first noticed this type of disparity when i bought a...
I've never had to soften a coat because i usually get goatskin a-2s...
however, i did have a wonderful talk with the 'leathermaster' at gibson barnes when i ordered a horse a-2 from them...a lot of interesting stuff he mentioned, but concerning 'soft', he stated how their customers are told a...
flying on Wounded Wings
thanks for all who responded...i certainly didn't want to trash uswings...i was upset enough to share my experiences because i like some of their products...quite a bit...i agree the milspec signature a-2 and their milspec g-1 are amazing values, and really excellent...
sorry to say, after repeatedly extolling the virtues of uswings.com's prices and their milspec jackets, that my latest buying experience was a mini-nightmare:
trying to cash in on the sale of 10 percent off through the end of december 2007, i purchased a milspec a-2 on dec 29...
my first...
he's got 'the' LooK...
after fletch's always informative and insightful comments, i must ask if anyone has gone so far as to alter their body "look" to fit the ww2 a-2 look...
now, i know we're for the most part men here, so i'm not talking plastic surgery...but a number of forum members...
Goering Goering...Gone
aside from the issue of Indian versions of ww2 German jackets (i'd kinda think German versions might have a bit more pedigree), i noticed the comment about luftwaffe jackets being 'nazi' jackets...
whilst that lovable guy hermann goering was indeed a member of the nazi...
a-2s for pencilnex?
indeed some a-2s have bigger nex than others...or in my experience, one really does have a bigger neck than others...that is the cooper 80s and 90s military spec a-2...the neck is definitely several inches bigger than other a-2s of the same size...
i've had an 80s-90s...
cooper siZes
i've had the modern coopers, meaning not milspec, with side pockets as you mention...these are the ones that have bigger sizes...a 38 for instance would be a normal, civilian somewhat large fit...the milspec coopers, with no side pockets, throat hook, etc. are your typical milspec...
my jackets have jackets
i have so many jackets, and varieties of sizes, they could wear each other:
1.uswings milspec 46L goat a-2
2.currently on order a 44L version of the above jacket, to be the summer version, slimmer with no room for layering
3.schott rare milspec 1992 goat a-2, full...
Geeeeeeeeee-ONe
if you are looking for milspec, and want handwarmer pockets, you might think it ain't gonna happen, however, two points to consider...
first, milspec requirements changed in 1996, allowing the handwarmer pockets on milspec a-2 jackets...but i'd go with an actual milspec, that...
an A-2 is not an A-2 is not an A-2...sizewise
shakespeare was wrong with that rose analogy when it came to a-2s, and i'm not even talking about quality/style/cut...but as fletch points out, sizewize...
some numbers...i am going to give here the inch counts for shoulder seam to shoulder seam...
the Enabler
thanks mazeta, you have given us all the go ahead to indulge in multiple size looks for each a-2 we've got...and i shall take advantage of it dearly, scooping up that 44L version of the 46L a-2 i already have
many thanks from me...not from my bank account
johnnyjohnny
COMPuLSiON
good points fletch and covina john...however, i am compulsive and have been wearing 501s since college (no, not the same pair), so the perpetual a-2 look will go well with the perpetual 501 look (tho i do have a milspec g-1 for those 'dress up' moments)...
as for breaking the...
no 12-step for me...
rather than a 12 step program i think--with all the support of the members who have answered here--that i shall go on a 12 jacket program...
to paraphrase a great quote: "i love the smell of a-2s in the morning"
(among other things, of course)
thanks,
johnnyjohnny
NiCE jacket buTTTTTT...
checked out the jacket you referenced, pretty nice, especially for that price, tho it didn't show if it had a one-piece back...however, some points:
if you are putting flying tiger patches on a jacket, i'd really only do that with a jacket that is milspec...like the...
has anyone liked a brand of a-2 they've gotten, but got two different sizes of it for different looks?
for a post ww2 look i love the uswings milspec a-2 i got in 46long, however, uswings military size 46 is slightly larger than most brands...it has a more current, fuller look to it on...
another Schott, bartender
hi striker and all who are interested in schotts, which until recently i thought was a big ole wannabe jacket...but not so...
i have received the second schott milspec a-2, which was made in 1992, prior to relaxation of a-2 military specs (in 1996)...this one is...
SchoTT daTa
thank you striker...the info i can give you is that the measurements on everything are the same as any other 1987 and after milspec a-2 i have, including a spiewak and sons, and a cooper...these having no side pockets...the only variations are some slight differences on the points...
