Admittedly, the photography isn't the best, but here's my Akubra Sydney next to my vintage Champ. The brim width, ribbon width and crown heights are identical. The Sydney has a slight taper. The Champ is also bashed higher.
I agree with Moon that nothing beats true vintage for the vintage look...
I would rather choose the Akubra Sydney, or Fedora, as it's called by Australian distributors. It's got the soft feel (softer than my Stylemaster and almost as soft as my vintage hats), and it's got a taller, 5 1/2 inch open crown you can shape to your liking.

I know this was the Sears brand for years. I'm guessing it's late '40s to early '50s. It has a 2 5/8 brim, probably 5 1/2 to 5 3/4 crown. It's in great shape.
