I'd be concerned that the dye or oils in the leather might stain the felt.

Jim, The edge binding and ribbon are brown grosgrain that closely emulate the color of the felt. Just a shade darker

Rusty, Thanks for posting a link to this thread. Although the Kidron Country Store does not show a straw with the visor insert in the front brim, I believe I'll order one of their vented styles. Who knows, maybe the visor brim will make a comeback.

Paul, I like the Open Crown look. Thanks for some interesting history on the area where you live. Zappa may not like to wear hats but he wears a straw sombrero well. We just saw Marley & Me so this seems appropriate.
